Steel Rule on Saw and Tape Measure Not Matching

Hello all, I added a steel rule to my table saw fence rail today and noticed that it doesn’t match up with my tape measure. When I have it set to 32” both match. However, the closer I get to “0”, the greater the difference becomes. I first noticed when I made a cut at 20 1/2”, but when I double checked with my tape measure it said 20 9/16”. So I shifted the indicator line to the right by 1/16”. However, now when my fence is all the way to the blade this is what my indicator line shows. ...

I haven’t been around for awhile. I’ve been super lazy. I have worked on a few small things, and I’m starting to get it into gear again, getting the garage cleaned up and organized and making things once more. I will be returning to the fun here soon, probably just after the holidays. I miss this place and my fellow woodworkers :) In the meantime, I give you some tape measure tricks:

Craftsman is dropping tape measures

I just got back from Sears. I was in need of a new tape measure and wanted to get a Craftsman even though the warranty doesn’t cover damage to the blades. What I found was a gaping hole in the display rack where there are no longer any Craftsman tape measures. The sales person told me that craftsman was no longer going to be making tape measures. This is a versatile little cabinet in which you can store whatever your heart desires in it. The overall dimensions for this project is 21”w x 11 ¼”d x 13 ¼” h. Of course if you need something bigger than make it bigger, or to fit your needs. I am using Baltic Birch for mine but use whatever material you feel like using.
