984 days ago by Martin Sojka | 109 comments »

Thanks to the creativity and hard work of Karson, Mark and Michael we are starting our first unique Woodworking Challenge! Karson sent the proposal to Glen Huey, Senior Editor of Popular Woodworking and asked him for their support in this challenge. Glen whole heartily agreed. Karson's proposal was to use the cover project from February 2007 issue #160 of Popular Woodworking - Thorsen House Side Table - as our challenge. When we have the Summer and Winter Awards everyone builds their o...

Fall SketchUp Challenge - Empire State Dining Table

793 days ago by Brad_Nailor | 22 comments »

I have always been a big fan of the art deco style and early 20th century skyscrapers so I decided to combine both for inspiration for my virtual table design. After plowing through tons of images I found a really great art deco mirror from the 1930’s that really inspired me for the tabletop..For the leg inspiration I used my favorite skyscraper ever designed The Empire State Building!...So this is it..my Art Deco Empire State Dining Table! The material is tiger maple and wenge. The top...

Home reno #1: Oak Stairs

901 days ago by scottb | 14 comments »

What a week for new experiences and big projects. While my nights were spent toiling on the Thorsen Table… and trying new things, the day job had me wrapping my mind around several new things as well. The last basement dad and I refinished (sub contracting for Owens Corning) included perhaps the pinnacle of woodworking projects – redoing the stairs. Ripping off the 2×8 treads and replacing those with oak, adding oak risers, newel post, railing and 52 spindles. T...

Work(shop) in Progress #6: New Table Saw : Unpacking and Assembly of Ridgid R4511

250 days ago by PurpLev | 39 comments »

So after much research and debates, I have finally charged the card, and 2 days later the delivery arrived with the new saw in the box (I opted to have it delivered from the store as opposed to pick it up myself – at 450lbs, I simply wouldn’t be able to unload it myself) Delivery from HD was swift and smooth, positive and friendly guy stop at my place saturday morning, and helped me position the box in my garage – I couldn’t be happier (took 5 minutes, 4.5 of those was...

Fall Sketchup Challenge Entry - Backwards Bridge

808 days ago by ThreeJs | 14 comments »

This bridge fell during a tropical storm a few years ago. Now it servers as a dam, and the river flows over it rather than under. Today cars do not use the bridge to travel the forest road, but that doesn’t stop a few adventurous hikers. The bridge. Wire frame showing the construction of the table The woods depicted in the table design are primarily cherry and maple, with walnut accents.Front View Left View The table. Changing Table/Dresser #2: More Detailed SketchUp Drawings

823 days ago by chambbj | 2 comments »

I’ve updated my SketchUp drawings; still no dust panels, shelves, or door. Clicking on any photo should take you to it’s Flickr page, with higher resolutions if it’s too hard to see some of the detail here. Here’s an exploded view of the current plan, to reveal some of the internal blocking and joinery plans. The current thought is to use mostly 4/4 Lyptus, except on the back and drawer bottoms, where I’ll use plywood. Dimensioned drawing of the divid...

Router Table #1: Design ideas, need some feedback

281 days ago by PurpLev | 34 comments »

OK, so yeah – another blog about a router table, but since I’m going to make one , might as well document it while I go, maybe someone can benefit from this. I’ve had a Rockler router table top + plate + fence which I got when I bought my router (Bosch 2 1/4hp). It had the misfurtune of being on the floor when my basement was flooded a couple of years ago, so that top was ruined. I since have been planning to replace it with a shop-built version, and make a full enclosed ...

Folsom Stadium Dining Room Table

800 days ago by steved | 10 comments »

I love College Football in general, and specifically the CU Buffaloes. So, I used Folsom Field as inspiration. I also used Layout, which comes with SketchUp Pro, and used the style feature to add a more hand drawn look in certain views.

Entry Table Specs

744 days ago by Todd A. Clippinger | 27 comments »

Friends With Benefits… OK guys it’s not what you think. But the benefit here are specs for the entry table that I made. One of the LJ brothers asked if he could build the entry table as a gift and I thought I would share it with everyone. I am keeping his identity secret lest I give him away to someone that he would be intending to surprise. In The Rough… These are not professionally drawn plans, but they will do. This is a simple project and all the specs are t...
