Thanks to the creativity and hard work of Karson, Mark and Michael we are starting our first unique Woodworking Challenge! Karson sent the proposal to Glen Huey, Senior Editor of Popular Woodworking and asked him for their support in this challenge. Glen whole heartily agreed.

I have always been a big fan of the art deco style and early 20th century skyscrapers so I decided to combine both for inspiration for my virtual table design. What a week for new experiences and big projects. While my nights were spent toiling on the Thorsen Table… and trying new things, the day job had me wrapping my mind around several new things as well.
The last basement dad and I refinished (sub contracting for Owens Corning) included perhaps the pinnacle of woodworking projects – redoing the stairs. Ripping off the 2×8 treads and replacing those with oak, adding oak risers, newel post, railing and 52 spindles.

So after much research and debates, I have finally charged the card, and 2 days later the delivery arrived with the new saw in the box (I opted to have it delivered from the store as opposed to pick it up myself – at 450lbs, I simply wouldn’t be able to unload it myself) Delivery from HD was swift and smooth, positive and friendly guy stop at my place saturday morning, and helped me position the box in my garage – I couldn’t be happier (took 5 minutes, 4.5 of those was...

This bridge fell during a tropical storm a few years ago. Now it servers as a dam, and the river flows over it rather than under. Today cars do not use the bridge to travel the forest road, but that doesn’t stop a few adventurous hikers.

I’ve updated my SketchUp drawings; still no dust panels, shelves, or door. Clicking on any photo should take you to it’s Flickr page, with higher resolutions if it’s too hard to see some of the detail here.
Here’s an exploded view of the current plan, to reveal some of the internal blocking and joinery plans. The current thought is to use mostly 4/4 Lyptus, except on the back and drawer bottoms, where I’ll use plywood.

OK, so yeah – another blog about a router table, but since I’m going to make one , might as well document it while I go, maybe someone can benefit from this.
I’ve had a Rockler router table top + plate + fence which I got when I bought my router (Bosch 2 1/4hp). It had the misfurtune of being on the floor when my basement was flooded a couple of years ago, so that top was ruined. I love College Football in general, and specifically the CU Buffaloes. So, I used Folsom Field as inspiration. I also used Layout, which comes with SketchUp Pro, and used the style feature to add a more hand drawn look in certain views.
