From the Workbench of T-Chisel
Well the boiled linseed oil has been applied and allowed to cure. This next video introduces you to my finish guy, Mark Libby. Mark has 25 years experience in the finishing industry. This is a Lumberjocks exclusive video!
Thank you so much for the warm welcome to this truly great woodworking community.
Hey guys the cameras are rolling once again in my shop. Al and I have a great conversation regarding finishing considerations for this awesome slant top maple desk. If you have seen any other videos from my shop, you wont be disappointed. Trust me, a little humor goes a long way to break up monotony in the shop and keep spirits elevated . . . especially with the ex...

Happy New Year to all my Lumberjock Buddies!
I just reviewed the latest issue of Fine Woodworking online and saw one of our newest Lumberjocks has published an article. Congratulations to T-Chisel for getting his article on his Classic Step Stool published! You can also see a companion article where Tommy discusses his finishing process for this project.

Time to put on the finishing touches. Tommy goes to work on the finish with a heat gun. After that’s done, he takes the completed chest down to Downes & Reader Hardwood Co. for a critique.

Another fine finished piece of wood working by Thomas J. MacDonald. During this final installment of the Tiger Maple Slant Top Desk, Mark lends his expertise on how he prepared Tommy’s work for its final coat of finish. In addition to addressing the desk specifically, Mark offers some great general advice that he has found useful through his 25+ career. If you take anything for this video remember: ”Less is Better, be patient. Take your time. Build the finish. Time Time Time...

The dowel is in and the edge is rounded over so now it’s time to attach the batten and the lid. Once that is set, the project is almost complete!

Tommy shows the completed blanket chest he built four years ago. He then gets to work cutting the wood, starting with the posts.

Tommy is up early on a Sunday morning to get to work marking the pieces where the dados will go. Later, Al and his wife of 40 years stop by and visit Tommy in the shop.
We also get insight to one of Tommy’s secrets . . . six shots of expresso from Star Bucks!
