Life hands you a big lemon...

Since it has been, and is predicted to be, hot as a kiln in the Northeast, I thought I might take advantage of it and dry some rough cut, green lumber. I sealed up the ends fairly well. Using it for a segmented bowl, so I’m not to worried if it checks a little. Good idea? Bad idea? We’ll see… And I also set out some mint tea to brew. My wife and son drink it straight. I prefer mine with a little sugar and Bourbon.

Tree growth "vortex"

OK, maybe all of my wood-tec type friends out on LJ,s can help me figure this out. I’ve allways been fascinated with the dynamics of curing and drying wood after the harvesting process. One to overcome is of cource the growth vortex that occures in some species and not in others. One question I have is this, Is there a right-hand vortex that occures above the equator as opposed to a left hand one bellow the equator? The Sun Case #1: design and considerations

The Sun Case design was a fun challenge for me, since it was the first time I’ve really designed something with the intent of looking good. (My only previous design was a platform bed, which was all function, no form.) I started with 2 simple design goals: Keep the design open… aka not a true case.
