One thing nice about not being allowed to use glue, No glue clean up and you can pre-finish all of the parts before assembly. On my finishing blog I wrote about using Pumice and Rottenstone as a wood filler, I thought I’d try something different on this cabinet.
I used my private blend Danish Oil (1/3 Boiled Linseed Oil BLO, 1/3 varnish, and 1/3 Mineral Spirits). I squirted it on the boards and used a 120 grit Random Orbital Sander (ROS) to sand the oil and sanding dust. In doing that I wa...

After Martin announced the Summer Contest and the Themes Garden Project and Wood Joinery I started thinking about what I wanted to build. The contest rules state “Wood Joinery – Let’s get technical – but without glues, metal nails, screws or other mechanical fasteners! Yes, this is the “WOOD JOINERY” challenge for all you LumberJocks out there. Let’s see what you are made of – or rather what your woodworking project is made of. If you can build it wit...

I finally got started on cutting the planks for the bridge. I hope I can get this done in time to submit as my entry. I may have to submit some previous projects if I don’t get finished this weekend.
I bought my son-in-law this Dewalt contractors saw last weekend as a gift for helping me install all new windows in the house. I like it so much I’m going to put one on my birthday/christmas/fathers day gift list ( all tools on that list as you can imagine) Very light, powerful, ni...

I couldn’t resist doing a blog on this. I have no illusions of winning the contest given the competition and since the whole idea of LJ is to share I wanted to do just that. So…no cards close to the chest here…I’m showing my hand.
Many of you have seen the bridge in our garden. I built it as a “temporary” solution 8 years ago from some leftover fence. Well it’s starting to show its age and I figure it will be great to kill two birds with one stone....

It’s getting hot again… yes, the first reason is that the summer is coming but the second and the more important one is that our Summer 2007 Woodworking Awards have been announced in our fresh new eMag today.
I’d like to thank everybody who participated in our little themes poll. It’s great to know that the final two themes – Wood Joinery and Garden Project – were picked by you.
I also want to personally thank Debbie. Without her work and support it w...
