Safety (or the lack thereof) #3: DADO BLADES CAN'T CUT 1 INCH OF HARDWOOD IN ONE PASS

I’m a BONEHEAD.I like my Dado blades.But they have their limitations.Especially pulling the blade through on your radial arm saw.Ripping a 3/4 inch dado 1 inch deep in a piece of hardwood tougher than oak (I have mallets made from this stuff) exceeds their abilityWhen you try anyway the chippers decide to group together in a show of rebellion and the teeth get mad enough to fly off the handle…er…blade. Do you all know that denatured alcohol burns, invisibly. I mean you can’t see it burn. Well a little blue flame maybe if you’re at the right angle. Well let me tell you from the beginning. I’m on quite a few meds from a broken back, diabeties and a few other ailments. Needless to say my wife does’nt even want me in my shop, let alone playing with power tools and chemicals. No matter how careful you think you are, when you feel the thunk of the blade as it catches on the bone means it’s too late. I reached to brush away a cutoff and got my thumb snagged in the blade. With my wife’s assistance I got it bandaged up, and then sat around all afternoon holding my hand up to relieve the pounding in my thumb. Three Ibuprofen and 30 minutes later I had relief. Now all I feel is stupid.
