Video: French Cleat Blade Storage Rack

02-16-2014 02:12 PM by JSB | 9 comments »

Hello everyone. After another productive Saturday in the shop I came up with this French cleat saw blade storage option. It can be modified to your dimensions and needs as always. It features two rows of blade storage with 6 partitions each. The dividers can be removed for larger blades such as 1/2” or 3/4” bandsaw blades. You could even reduce the spacing on one of them for more table saw blades. For added storage options on the outside you could use dowels, screws, or nails. ...

Season of shop upgrades #1: Shop Improvements

02-16-2014 10:24 AM by PJ72 | 3 comments »

This past year I have occupied my shop time in efforts to organize the shop and spent the time to build several shop tools and accessories. Having a garage shop that is primarily used for parking cars; it has been a constant challenge to optimize the space as a part time woodworking shop. This year I removed everything from the garage to thoroughly clean and re-organize the shop. I painted the walls and added 8 banks of overhead fluorescent lights to brighten up the space. Free up Spac...

Garage Cabinet #2: Slowly but slowly

02-04-2014 07:47 PM by jakeprater | 2 comments »

This morning, rather than exercising or actually studying for school, I went back to the garage to try to knock out the shelf. I was out there for about 45 minutes, and came in at 1:00 pm. I went out at 8:30. So my day was pretty well shot. I’ll hit the books this afternoon, take a test, and hopefully not fail. Here you can see I’ve got the face frame attached. I like to use dowels to help me keep everything aligned – plus I’m a little cheap, so I don’t wa...

Temporary hand plane and saw till AKA Real Jewelry!

01-22-2014 06:20 PM by CFrye | 14 comments »

Shop storage is currently a bunch of open shelving that hubby put up. It’s a temporary thing and we both are looking forward to improving on it. Since I’ve started down the slippery slope of hand tools the shelves are getting rather cluttered on my side. I’m looking at plans for wall hung cabinets. I’ve got a nasty respiratory bug that has kept me out of the shop all of January (doc says no dust producing activities) and so, not wanting to be idle, I’ve taken the...

STACK-ABLE boxes - storage solution

01-21-2014 02:09 AM by wyeth | 4 comments »

I got carried away again when I saw a steam cleaner on special at our local supermarket. I had one of these a few years ago but it only lasted a year or two. This new one is supposed to be “new and improved”and it has lots of attachments most of which I will likely never use.I hate trying to keep these things in the original box – the hassle of getting out the parts you need is so annoyingthat you never want to use the damn thing and my wife hates them even more.It is useful...

SCMS stand w/ folding wings #2: Partitions

12-29-2013 02:53 AM by Mainiac Matt | 3 comments »

We do a lot of corrugated partitions at work, and occasionally do similar designs out of plywood cut on the CNC for use in crates. So I laid these out in 1/4” Masonite and banged them out about a month ago. Here are the individual pieces… Ad here they are set up…

SCMS stand w/ folding wings #1: Plan modeled

12-29-2013 02:16 AM by Mainiac Matt | 9 comments »

Two years ago I found this article in FWW magazine and knew this was the sand I wanted to build. Since I have already built a hood and have my saw parked right next to my DC, I decided to modify the design and use the case to organize my cut offs. Here’s the magazine plan… And here’s my design modeled up in Solid Works… I did all this two years ago, but it has just now made it to the top of my list.

Wood Plane Storage

12-25-2013 09:50 PM by Joe Lyddon | 9 comments »

Plane Storage on slanting board . . Plane Storage on slanting board I got to thinking about my planes scattered all over the shop… on shelves, in drawers, & here & there. I could consolidate their storage, get them all together, and make more overall storage space for other things! So, I grabbed some scraps and started out Mapping Out where the various planes would fit on the board. I screwed 1/4” ply 1/2” strips for separators, drew more ...

Work(shop) in Progress #19: Bar Clamp Storage

12-24-2013 08:14 PM by PurpLev | 9 comments »

I just went over some old pics and noticed I never officially posted this one, so here it is. This is how I have my bar clamps stored and organized (by length) at eye level so that even if one falls, it won’t do much damage (to me) as well as making it easy to reach and grab what is needed: Cheers!

This is just a quick video to say thanks to fellow woodworker Jay Bates. Check out his video to see how he made some simple and inexpensive brackets that can be used for shelving or lumber storage. Thanks for watching. Take care.
