All I have to say is that the rack is up and it is going to create a TON of free space, especially that wall! I am going to be able to get a lathe in there some day instead of having a mess of sheet goods! I added extra storage above the rack too. I have a place to sticker lumber now! Please take a look and leave your comments to let me know what you think!
HEY! Hello LJ’ers. I have been super busy in my shop and in my garage lately. YES… there is a difference. There USED to be a garage at my house and now it is a wood shop. On the other hand… two minutes away from my house is a storage garage. :) Anyhow… here is one of the many projects that I’ve been working on. The tote storage racks helped a bunch. And it motivated me to get the lumber racks done. I plan on building two. I have one done. So…. I did this kinda backwards this...
I finally past that stinking kidney stone. I was out of work for 2 weeks because of this thing. I passed it Friday afternoon, so now I feel pretty normal now. It just aches now, the pain is manageable. I imagine that it will take a few more days to feel completely better. Anyhow, after 2 weeks off, I was able to get in the shop today and do a bit of work. (Admittedly, I tried while I was off work because I was bored out of my mind, but I could only stand for about 20 minutes, so that ...
Above: A while ago I built this stand for my drill press. It’s got a deep drawer and two shelves behind double doors. It got really tiring having to open the doors, bend over, and reach in to grab either my electric (corded drill,) or my handy hand drill. So today I put a thought into action. I looked up drill holders and found this really basic design to keep things at hand. Above: A simple chunk of 2×4 with two holes drilled into it and a little cutting and I got thi...
I have been waiting for parts to actually do the hanging, but over the last couple weeks, I got the frame ready and had time to get the video update put together. Check it out:
I am about to redo part of my work shop. I currently have a pegboard system for hanging my tools. Ive seen alot of things showing that some people like using French Cleat systems. Has anyone used that type of system and recommend French Cleats? Anybody like one of the other?
I live in the urban San Francisco Bay Area in the smaller city of San Leandro between Oakland and Hayward in the East Bay. That means I have some advantages and some disadvantages when it comes to woodworking. The main advantage is the availability of free wood (hardwood pallets are everywhere and broken furniture on craigslist and curbsides) and good prices on old used tools. The main disadvantage for me is the cost of housing. Because of that I rent a two bedroom duplex with very little usa...
All of my measuring and squaring tools were spread out throughout the shop. I wanted them all in one place, so I made this. Watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IOwoCwpg54
I got the lower supports, hinge brackets, and the backstop on. Check it out!
I’ve been making some changes to my workshop. I have this dead space behind my entry door into my shop. Usually it ends up collecting boards… the kind that fall on you when you enter the shop. LOL! So over the weekend I decided to do two things… use up some of the wood I’ve been “collecting” and to clean up the shop. This was the area that my focus went to as I walked in the shop and as I closed the door a board fell and almost hit me. Oops! :) Sometime last year I ...
