I am working on yet another piece and thought I’d share me project so far with you guys.
The Magnolia ‘Salicifolia’ tree had stood in the grounds of the Inner Temple on London’s Thames for over 80 years but due to a fungus it had to come down.

DESIGN INSPIRATIONI drew inspiration on my latest project from my recent experience visiting South Africa to build something for my in-laws (originally from Cape Town, SA). With the blade cut and drilled to length, and the frame shaped and finished (BLO) it was time to add some tension to the frame to pull on the blade.
I was toying with some ideas, and ended up getting an IKEA steel wire hanger as the tension control. It’s quite simple, and uses 2 threaded ends one left hand one right hand, both pulling on the wire:

As woodworkers we also need to cut metal once in a while. Also, having the ability to cut metal will allow us to create custom handles as I have on past projects.
The question is how do we get a clean cut? Hacksaw? Reciprocating saw?
Nope – portaband is the answer.
The portaband is a powerful, smooth cutting portable bandsaw and a tool that I recommend for any custom woodworkding shop.

Steel City Tool Works may be the new kid on the block but don’t let that fool you – there is a lot of experience behind the name.

The mobile workstation is in my opinion going to be the center of my workshop once its built. An integrated router table, table saw, downdraft table and ample storage in a ~ 5’ x 2’ area on wheels! Certainly not my idea, however, the layout will be done solely by me. I am going to try doing a Blog. Although this project is going to be a metal working project, it is for a wood working tool. :)
I ordered my Sawstop 3HP PCS a few weeks ago and it will arrive next week (4/1). I am on vacation the following week so I plan to get it assembled and tuned up.

Not a woodworking project, but interesting, I think.
I made jigs for these also.
One of the businesses I’m a partner in is a couple of Pizza Stores. My Brother in law (the one I made the table for) is my partner. He ordered a custom oven for a delivery truck that cost 3,000.00
When I saw it I told him I could build a nicer over than that, for less money. He told me I couldn’t build an oven.
The one he bought would hold about five pizzas. It also had room for one propane tan...

Yesterday, after our bonfire breakfast (6:30 AM with our family, sitting around the fire laughing, eating), Rick and I headed to Toronto to the Woodworking Machinery and Supply Expo.

Since I got this tragic-looking tool at a giveaway (a junk store was moving, and the last day was free) and it had a bit of a name—James Swan tools are present and selling on the ‘bay—I decided the maximum benefit was to sell it.
