The Steel City Dual Drum Sander Blues...and the Cure!

864 days ago by Boxguy | 1 comment »

I had the low down, no good, dual drum blues…but I have found the cure. I have had a 27 inch Steel City dual drum sander for a couple of years and while I liked what it could do it was driving me crazy trying to keep sandpaper on it. The clips didn’t hold…I fixed that. The paper kept wrinkling and tearing. I tried different brands of paper and 4 inch paper and 6 inch paper. I wrapped the ends with tape. I tried Steel City’s tech service (not a good experience...

Mobile Workstation #2: Let's do the twist!

898 days ago by chopnhack | 1 comment »

Ok, so it’s much more fun to dance than to fix…. Apparently welding a frame should not be undertaken without proper support, or ahh… more experience. The frame had a twist to it across the 59.5” length! I cleared a section of the shop floor (miracle) got out my door installation level and found a fairly level area. I then proceeded to use some shims to adjust the floor until the it was perfectly level. Gotta give credit to the guys that screeded the floor some 50 y...

Wood Shows #7: Woodstock 2009

1794 days ago by MsDebbieP | 11 comments »

October 2/09 Rick and I attended the “Woodstock Wood show” (Ontario Canada) this morning. It was a beautiful rainy day—perfect weather for trekking around in the mud and getting chilled through and through. But—it’s a wood show. You can’t go wrong. The crowds weren’t huge but then it is a Friday morning and it is raining. I spoke to some of the familiar faces: Jim McEntee from Steel City and Paul Fulcher, from Canadian Woodworking to ...

2094 days ago by MsDebbieP | 3 comments »

Dec. 6/08 Last night Rick and I went to St. George, to Morley Miller Machinery. For their Christmas Open House they had a some company reps present to answer any questions about their products. In attendance were representatives from Steel City, King Canada, and BlackJack. We checked out a number of gadgets at the BlackJack display, including some sanding drums that attach to a drill press. You just cut your sandpaper to size, slip it around the drum, slide it into the drill press ...

Kitchen Remodel #4: Still No Table saw!!

2313 days ago by SteveV | 4 comments »

Well, this project has been on hold until my new Grizzly G0651 arrives. Grizzly told me twice, once before I ordered and once after I ordered, that the new saws were due into their warehouse around May 9th. So, I decided to trust them even know I heard rumors on the Internet that others were told June. I ordered the saw and put this project on hold. I decided to send them an email the other day since the May 9th date was fast approaching. I received an email back within an hour saying ...

New Tools from the Woodworking Show

2350 days ago by Greg3G | 18 comments »

Yeah, I know, I’m two weeks late in getting this done, but hey, Life sometimes gets busy. (of course that’s not the real reason, I’ve just been a bit lazy.) I made myself a promise that I would get a new table saw this year. My craftsman contractors saw was at the limit of what I wanted it to do. It would do fine on regular ¾” stock but started to give me fits when I went to cut thicker stock. So Long Story short, (I know, too late) I offered to sell the saw to my brother, and with o...
