How to dimension lumber with handtools #2: Reference Face

In this video, I establish the reference face. The reference face will determine all other dimensions of the board. I begin by placing the board cup side down for stability then I determine which direction of the grain. Once the board is positioned on the workbench I chamfer the opposing edge and begin to plane the board perpendicular to the grain along the length of the board. Whoot. The plane arrived today. I unpacked it and started the inspection. I only found one surprise which is a good thing. Now all I need is for the IBC blade to arrive and I will be ready to “get er done”. I picked up some brass sheet and rod yesterday, so I can also begin the process of creating a new lever to adjust the mouth. Thanks again Mads!!!! So here are some photos.
