Wire wheel, wd-40, sandpaper and my hands filled with dirt, grease and hard work…...I truely get a chance to see and feel the contours of these wonderful crafted pieces…...I can’t help but to ask myself more than once…what happened to such well made and designed tools? The curves…the artwork, iron and wood highlighted sometimes with brass…...the time and quality these instruments were made with….I can only hope to give back half of the hardwork in ...

Saw Till #2: Starting the build

The basic frame for my saw till couldn’t be simpler: four pieces of 10” wide poplar. The bottom is simply screwed into the sides and the top is attached with recessed figure 8s. To support the saws, I created two levels of slotted crossbars. They are mortised into the sides of the carcase. I cut repetitive slots across them to allow me to insert a saw into them. This is the first specialty use plane that I have restored back to user condition. It was a long process but it was worth it as this is a very sweet plane to use. On my very first attempt I was able to cut an almost perfect tongue & groove within 5 minuets. It is a very well designed plane and is a great addition to my collection. I got this plane off Ebay for around 30 dollars. It was in pretty rough shape from a cosmetic point of view but its all cast solid so there is not much you c...
