As we continue on in our build we get to where we need to build the boxes for our drawers. I run through it and explain about setting up for the drawer slides.
So here is part two of this series on making these desks. I show you how I layout my sheet goods and yes I did solve my quandary of the pencil drawer grain. So I hope that this is entertaining and educational for all.
I know this is a little out of order but I needed to get started on these desks ahead of the garbage can containers. What is great about these desks is that we will be using different kinds of joinery. We’ll be laminating the legs, pocket hole joinery for the aprons and top. Plus there will be some edge banding happening too. You will also see how I build my drawer boxes and the material that I use for this in future episodes. We are working on a entry bench and mirror set for a homeowner. There is a small space in the entry of the condo by the base of the stairs that will accommodate a sitting bench and decorative mirror. The mirror unit will be made up of poplar and will have a dark finish. An existing mirror from the powder room has been fabricated and will be framed. a shelf and crown trim will be at the base and crown and a shelf will finish out the top. The bench seat will have a flip lid to store thi...
Well, disappointingly, the desk top needed a complete re-sanding. In the higher temperature conditions late yesterday afternoon the finish did not flow well and left an unacceptable orange peal surface. The orange peel was just too rough, another coat wouldn’t help. the other parts were quickly brought to smooth with a 220 grit rubdown. I sealed the desktop’s new surface with shellac, which dried very quickly; warm today. Knocked down the nibs, and shot a coat of thinned poly....
My brother and I have spent a good deal of time lately building a blanket chest our of quarter-sawn white oak. We have the inside lined with aromatic cedar (not fully installed yet, till after we put the finish on the rest of the project). I thought that I wanted to spray on the stain and the topcoat (was planning on polyurathane). I bought a turbine HVLP sprayer, the one from Rockler, which I wanted to get eventually anyway, b/c I keep reading/hearing that it puts a better finish on. I hav...

OK we are out of the clamps with our project and we level the legs. Next we do a little more finish sanding and spray our finish. *Note one thing I forgot on the video I buy adhesive backed felt and put on the bottom of the feet to ad that “Pro” touch to it. Enjoy and if any would not mind doing me favor, how about leaving some reviews on iTunes for me. Thanks In Advance, Huck
Thought I’d share one of my more popular projects with everyone. This is a candle holder that I make quite a few of and still now and again make mistakes as you will see. I hope everyone enjoys this episode—
A quick little video about a new finish I stumbled upon and I truly think this is a great product. I can not say enough about the way this thing finished. Check it out-http://blip.tv/file/3702906
