Have you guys [this includes gals too] ever seen these; they are quite impressive for wooden toys:http://www.craftsmanshipmuseum.com/Hoggarth.htm
I have completed the final finishing and assembly of this project. I was able to spray four coats of Sherwin-Williams Wood Classics® Waterborne Polyurethane Varnish. I also mounted the drawer slides and fronts. The top was attached with tabletop fasteners from McFeely’s. I am afraid I didn’t have time to take pictures as I went along or to take pictures of the finished project, but I hope to be able to do that this weekend and post the project here early next week. I will a...
Well if you have made it this far, why not go a little further and watch the conclusion of this chest. It has been a fun build so far for me. I hope it has been informative and somewhat enjoyable for you to watch as well. Now I know the video quality isnt the best. but As I go on it has gotten better….Now in this present day I have a new camera, lighting and it has helped a lot. Here are the final 3 videos of this chest build. Parts 6, 7, 8 Part 8 was pretty basic, the installation ...
This is a continuation of the Hickory Chest build. This is an 8 video series. Here we continue with part 3, 4 and 5
I make simple boxes, mostly of cedar with poplar inlays. There are many fine ways to make boxes and this is about the simplest. I make them 11”x8”x2 1/2” deep with hinged lid. 8” is my limit of the width of wood so anything over that will have a splice in it, which I avoid doing. I start by planeing and re-sawing the 1” thick rough eastern red cedar to 3/8” thickness on my band saw. I then cut strips to 2 1/4” to form the sides ...
This is the final post for my Veneered Sofa Table project. It is finally finished, the weekend before Christmas. In my last post, I had finished staining the non veneered portions of the table using General Finishes Light Walnut Oil Stain. The only reason that I stained the mahogany was to match an existing piece. Next step was to attached the table top. I was out of figure 8 clips so I created home made fasteners by drilling a pocket screw into a wooden tab and then drilling an ...
Those few of you that follow my mere attempts to be a wood worker will know I have fun doing it no matter how the project turns out. Whether it works out great or an failed attempt. Or whether it is a biggish project like the coffin or a small one like the cribbage board. Having the right tools for the job can make things so much easier, yes I will agree with that statement. However as we all know you don’t always have the right tool or all the tools you require or want to have in yo...

I’ve made a little more progress on the snowman (he’s a filler project for when I only have 20 or 30 minutes to work in the shop). His nose is a piece of a dowel that sharpened pencil sharpener and then I carved it down a bit more with a utility knife and then sanded it a bit (not TOO much, its a carrot after all). His 3 button’s are all pieces from the same dowel. I need to apply a little wood filler in one or two places, sand that smooth, then put on the f...
