If you’re a fan of Sketchup for creating woodworking models, then the next obvious step is to use Sketchup to help you create cutlists and layouts. Sketchup plugin Cutlist 4.1 does just that. CutList 4.1 sketchup plugin helps you determine how much of each material you need to produce your design, taking into account nominal sized lumber with allowances for finishing to final size. Then it goes one further and lays out all of the pieces on boards or sheet good sizes of your choosing. Th...

Installing the springs is almost complete. I am choosing to install coil springs that are all hand tied together. This method is called “8-way hand tied.” The benefit of this method is that it is stronger, it lasts way longer, and is more comfortable than sinuous springs. Sinuous springs (or “S” springs) is what most furniture companies use today. They do the job, but like most things these days, they aren’t made to last. They also save furniture companies ...

DISCLAIMER: Before I start this blog, I want to make sure everyone knows that I am NOT a professional sofa/furniture builder. I just took on this project because 1) I needed a sofa and 2) because I thought it’d be really fun and satisfying if I built my own sofa. This is all my own design, and besides looking at a few pics on the internet, this is all my OWN method of doing it. That being said – for any of you professional sofa builders out there, I am sorry if I’m not d...

WayneC, Bob #2 and I, have had some conversations about shooting boards. The conversations don’t last long because we all agree with eachother. It’s really the death of conversation. However, some of the hand tool posts have netted some good questions on what a shooting board is, how it works, what it does and how you use it.
I put together a 15 minute overview of the basics of the shooting board. Please note, the shooting board is a tool that will have unlimited uses in yo...

This is the first in a series of screencasts and video clips demonstrating how to capture and upload digital content to Lumberjocks. The ultimate goal is to add to your skill set and your ability to enhance your LJ Projects, Blog entries and Forum topics. The first episode focuses on uploading photos to photo hosting site, in this case Photobucket, and subsequently posting the photos to a LJ forum entry. I will be correcting some broken photo links for my forum entry on the Kreg Miter Gauge.

I, by mistake a couple of days ago, tried lacquer for the first time. After all these years of using Poly and oil finishes like “Norm” does, I have found a lot of advantages for one of the produces that I build. I have a dedicated finishing room that I can add filters and venting to, and have clean compressed air in the shop as well. Just to many choices as to how to spray it. Any help is needed. ie, what type of gun, clean-up time between guns, ect.
Thanks in advance.

I am sorry I do not have a lot of time before going to work, so I will not be able to write a whole bunch. I finished the platform today. All that is left is the backrest. I will hopefully have that finished tomorrow, and then all that is left is the pillows, and legs. Here are some pictures of what it looks like so far. sorry this has to be so short, but I am running out of time…if you have any questions, just ask me, otherwise maybe I can post more about it later on – i jus...
