For the most part woodworkers like to build their projects from solid wood. Easily transported from the supplier to the shop and once in the shop easily moved from one machining operation to another but what about those times we decide the project selection of wood adds to much cost to the item and /or our pocket book, so our secondary selection of material is sheet goods (ie, plywood, mdf ). Now our next concern is how can we handle these cumbersome materials from transportation to maneuveri...

Well here it is the fist video in a long time. This one is just the shop tour since you guys haven’t really seen a good look of what my shop looks like right now. I also want to point out my newly designed logo and music sequence in the beginning. I hope you enjoy. Please leave any questions comments, or concerns. Thanks, Tyler
Please tune in next time for the safety week special as well.

The shop is now somewhat operational. I moved all of the power tools in. I’ve finally finished the baseboards and window casing. The baseboards are 1×6 pine with a chamfer on the top edge and the casings are 1×4 pine. I pre-finished the baseboards with poly but I’ll finish the casing in place because I also have to do the windows. An HVL system sure would have been handy there! I made the casing design myself but modeled it after traditional craftsman style casing. The n...

Hi All…
All of our shops have to be at least a little organized for any type of efficient production, not to mention the safety reasons that also follow in this category. I’m beginning to get my shop organized, and I’m looking for some ideas. Any kind of storage, carts, benches, containers, ideas, etc, would help… pictures or links to plans if you have them would be GREAT! Also, please consider posting links to past threads here about shop organizing if you’...

Yeah, I know, I’m two weeks late in getting this done, but hey, Life sometimes gets busy. (of course that’s not the real reason, I’ve just been a bit lazy.)
I made myself a promise that I would get a new table saw this year. My craftsman contractors saw was at the limit of what I wanted it to do. It would do fine on regular ¾” stock but started to give me fits when I went to cut thicker stock. So Long Story short, (I know, too late) I offered to sell the saw to my brother, and with o...

I have debated posting this for a while, but the response from “My $2.00 router table” sent me to typing. Maybe I can inspire some other woodworkers to get off their buts and start butchering wood.
Last summer I needed a wood shop in a hurry, I went to the local pole building builders and found that they where over booked, and that the permits were taking 6-10 months, and the permit cost alone was going to be over $3400.00.
So call me a cheap SOB again, and necessity is the mother o...

I am going to “try” to do a good job of taking more pictures of my shop remodel than I usually do.
Of course I have already failed in that because I forgot to take the before pictures with all of tools randomly scattered around and very unuseful.
Intro: I have been very lucky in the last six months in that my lovely wife has allowed me to expand my tool collection. I have bought most of my tools or received them as gifts in the last 6 months actually. See my other posts for...

Hi Folks,
Wanted to share a few pics of my shop upgrade in progress, I’m a bit into it now but nothing that is too advanced – just some basic framing. I’m working out of a 2-car garage and wanted to maximum my shop space while still retaining some use of the garage.
The major tools that I needed to accomodate were:- Grinder- Drill press- Spindle sander- Mini lathe- Bandsaw- Tablesaw
I built the bench to hold the grider, drill press, sander and lathe with a spare ba...

We bought an old bungalow in 2003. I knew nothing about woodworking, and very little about home repair. Our “new” house was built in 1918, and had spend the last 5 years or so as section 8 housing. Let’s just say that it “needed some work”. So, as the rehab progressed, so did my interest in woodworking. I set up a small area in the unfinished basement for my workshop. As time went by, and tools were bought, I took over more and more space, much to the disma...

The outside of the shop is almost done all that’s left is to put the shutters and crown moulding on the front window and put the gutters on. The overhead doors won’t be installed until the drywall and paint are complete.
The electricians have been working at a good pace and the rough-in is all completed. The plumbing and electrical inspections should be today.
My 40th birthday is coming up soon. My shop has gone so far over budget that I informed my wife a month or so ag...
