The American Craftsman WorkShop #15: Reorganizing the Shop - Complete (this round)

1780 days ago by Todd A. Clippinger | 29 comments »

Grandkids And The Studio Furniture Movement The space-time continuum changes when you add the grandkids factor to the intended work progress equation, but that is OK. Rita and I had a couple of the grandsons for the weekend and they spent some time in the shop with me. I went out to the shop Saturday morning with the 2 boys in tow (ages 3 and 4) and thought that I would finish my organizational efforts in just a few hours – silly me. It took me all morning just to install the ceil...

The American Craftsman WorkShop #10: Reorganizing the Shop - Again!

1785 days ago by Todd A. Clippinger | 28 comments »

First Snow! Yesterday we woke up to the first snow of the season. We ended up officially receiving 4.6” but it has mostly melted off by this morning. Rita’s garden is looking pretty sad. You may be wondering, and the answer is “yes.” That is a genuine outhouse but the pit has been filled and it is used as a small gardening tool shed. Putting new shakes on the roof is on my honey-do list. On to the shop… I started working yesterday and I got on...

The American Craftsman WorkShop #11: Shop Reorganization - Day 2

1785 days ago by Todd A. Clippinger | 18 comments »

Getting Closer To Done I don’t think that a person is ever done with organizing the shop but I am getting close to done for this round of organization and resetting the shop. I finished my drywall repairs and painted the wall. I have 3 cans of old paint and all of them are marked “shop walls” but none of them match. My guess is that I did not have them labeled and at some point I opened them for identification, thought it looked like the shop wall color and marked it a...

The American Craftsman WorkShop #12: Reorganizing and the Domino Effect

1784 days ago by Todd A. Clippinger | 18 comments »

It Just Won’t Stop! I tore out some double doors at the end of the shop that I never use, I need the wall space to hang my clamps. I figure that since I started doing this little reorganization I might as well finish it. I usually bite things off a couple days at a time and then wish that I had finished or done more. There never seems to be a convenient time to interrupt my work schedule for improving shop conditions, but the payoff is always big when it comes to improved work fl...

I needed a place to store really small cut-offs. That, and a place for my shop TV.

The Straightedge (video) #1: Working with Melamine

1722 days ago by Brian Havens | 15 comments »

This is a re-edit of the video that got me started doing videos. Unfortunately I knew very little about shooting and editing video at the time. In fact, I shot the video with a web cam, so the video quality is poor in parts. The re-edit gives it a nice face lift, but perhaps in the future, when I run low on topics, I can re-shoot the video. (Full steam ahead on Router Inlay!) Here is the link: Working with Melamine

The American Craftsman WorkShop #14: Reorganizing the Shop - Finishing Up

1781 days ago by Todd A. Clippinger | 10 comments »

Almost Done I only have a few things left on the list for this round of shop organization. I need to get the clamps hanging on the wall. At the moment they are just laying on the floor. Before this started they were standing, piled in a corner. It was difficult to access them or pull them out individually, but I cannot neglect them for one more day on the floor. This has been their temporary home while I finished the wall. I also need to hang the extension cords. I have a lot of ...

Video: French Cleat Blade Storage Rack

192 days ago by JSB | 9 comments »

Hello everyone. After another productive Saturday in the shop I came up with this French cleat saw blade storage option. It can be modified to your dimensions and needs as always. It features two rows of blade storage with 6 partitions each. The dividers can be removed for larger blades such as 1/2” or 3/4” bandsaw blades. You could even reduce the spacing on one of them for more table saw blades. For added storage options on the outside you could use dowels, screws, or nails. ...

30 projects in 30 days #24: a look back at the first 27 days

636 days ago by scottb | 7 comments »

Okay, so I’ve been good about the projects challenge, just bad about the posting.  27 days in, 1 project left to do… maybe I’ll wait until Friday night for some last minute, down to the wire drama! Here’s a quick look at much of what has been going on in, and outside of the shop. Quite the mix of big and small. I wish I was able to do more “want to” than “have to” but I’m also VERY happy to have cleared a lot of those projects off the p...
