Home Workshop #1: The War against Clutter

02-24-2010 02:35 PM by David Craig | 21 comments »

This week I found myself between projects and this is my on call week, so I decided to invest my time in cleaning up my basement shop. I have an on call rotation every other week which means that I could get paged anytime, 24/7. I do not like to do to many projects that require much concentration during my on call cycle because the infrequent paging makes it difficult to have a good stop point where a step is properly completed. Every 6 months or so, I have a tendency to move things around...

Miter Sled on the Cheap

03-26-2014 10:30 PM by iamcliff | 12 comments »

I have a few projects coming up that I need to make mitered corners for, like picture frames and such. I have not had much luck in the past with my miter saw. I guess the positive stops at 45 degrees are not perfect or something because I have aligned everything on it. I have been wanting to make a miter sled for quite some time now so I decided to just do it using whatever I have on hand. I will definitely remake this later on when I can afford proper materials, but at least I have som...

New Crosscut Sled

12-10-2012 09:18 AM by MrWhite | 11 comments »

After reading a few articles and watching a few videos that had one, I decided to build a crosscut sled for my table saw. I looked at a bunch of designs but eventually came up with my own. Here’s what I built: I used ¾” birch ply for the base, doug fir for the front and back rails, and red oak for the sled runners. I found a 2×8x20’ at the local hardware place that had some very nice tight grain. Most construction lumber has really wide growth rings but this one board, out o...

Time to make some changes to the shop. #12: Time for a new Lumber Rack

11-11-2014 01:32 AM by AngieO | 10 comments »

HEY! Hello LJ’ers. I have been super busy in my shop and in my garage lately. YES… there is a difference. There USED to be a garage at my house and now it is a wood shop. On the other hand… two minutes away from my house is a storage garage. :) Anyhow… here is one of the many projects that I’ve been working on. The tote storage racks helped a bunch. And it motivated me to get the lumber racks done. I plan on building two. I have one done. So…. I did this kinda backwards this...

Miniature Router Table

10-26-2014 11:19 AM by iamcliff | 6 comments »

I had to roundover the edges of some small work-pieces. I have a router table, but the Craftsman router that goes with it needs some work before I can use it safely. So, I used a scrap piece of melamine and threw together this mini router table. Thought it might help someone else in a similar situation, so I made a video. Video: French Cleat Drill Charging Station

02-25-2014 02:15 PM by JSB | 5 comments »

Hello everyone. Here’s my latest and hopefully last for a little while addition to my French cleat wall. I may do something else for the wall in the future but I doubt it will be a video. This was a useful project that anyone can benefit from. Have more drills? Make it wider. Customize it the way you want. For those who are interested here is a link to the video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkiqzUPB9LQ And here is a link to the plans:http://jayscustomcreations.com/?p=4323

Building a Tablesaw Base Part 2

04-22-2013 12:12 AM by WoodJediNTraining | 4 comments »

Well I finally finished the Tablesaw Base, trying to film during rain storms is almost impossible with the ambient noise from the rain hitting the metal roof.. but I waited it out, and am very happy with the outcome.. Here is a look at the final steps of building this base

French Cleat Hooks - Repurpose Project

09-27-2014 12:37 PM by iamcliff | 3 comments »

We’ve had this old coat/key rack hanging in our garage collecting dust and whatever else didn’t have a spot. It’s basically falling apart. I also needed a dedicated spot to hang my shop apron. So, while deciding what to do, I noticed the old coat rack and came up with this. Watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VOvrG4Qz2w
