Shop Projects #4: Continued "Musical Shop" Play...

07-18-2012 10:49 AM by littlecope | 14 comments »

Every time it rains, I’m getting water in the basement shop. I’ve been here long enough now to see the flow pattern though, and to have discovered the “high ground”. So I’ve been moving and re-moving the shop around… again… I started with the Scroll Saw Table that I made back in the “90’s. After emptying it off and out, it occurred to me that I had never taken a picture of the old thing…It’s a sad affair that I knocked together...

shop progress #3: rude and crude router table

07-03-2012 07:19 AM by James Alberding | 2 comments »

I finally have an upside down router! I tested it out and it works perfectly, for what I need anyway. I built the table frame to fit the piece of laminated 1 1/4” material that I grabbed from a pile of scrap wood by my work. Along with the rest of the wood I used for this. So its not pretty by any stretch. it took some creativity to get the router mounted under the table. I used a scrap price of 1/2” plexi glass I scored from work to mount the router base to. so I cut a ho...

shop progress #2: first addition

07-02-2012 03:37 AM by James Alberding | 2 comments »

Last weekend I hit the shed pretty hard. I cleared out a lot of old crap and took it to be donated or thrown away. Then I built my first work bench out of the 4×4s and other scrap wood I scored from work. It is a really simple design that I saw on Stevin’s YouTube channel wood working for mere mortals. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQWY7Pi4v-M&feature=youtube_gdata_player I like how simple it is. I built it in a couple hours or so, and I like the flexibility that I can b...

shop progress #1: A little here, a little there

06-14-2012 07:49 AM by James Alberding | 3 comments »

Have you ever felt like you have gotten so much done, then you look around scratching your head and it just doesn’t look like any progress has been made? In the last week or so I have cleaned out the shed a bit more, as well as bring in a bunch of free wood I scored, so it doesn’t exactly look like progress. The more I get the old junk out and do a little work on my chair project the more I keep trying to contemplate building cabinets and a router table and so on. I will tak...

Jake's chair #3: It's official!

06-01-2012 01:31 PM by James Alberding | 0 comments »

Just a quick update… I officially have a wood shop. Haha it may not be a nice one, or have a lot of special tools. But the sawdust in my hair and all over everything else means its legit. Haha I finished cutting out my pieces after work yesterday. I have decided that instead of tracing the pieces from my templates and cutting them out every time. I am going to make plywood templates, then use the locations where the fasteners will be to screw down the template to the wood and cut ...

The Nehls End Workshop #5: The Coming Out and Going In

05-06-2011 04:24 PM by Gregn | 3 comments »

The tools are coming out of storage and along with coming out means Cleaning up. Having been in storage for a couple of years my machines are in need of some TLC. Yesterday I brought to the shop some of my machines to start putting into place. I finally have my workbench to work on so this will help to make the clean up process go a little easier. I started with the Band Saw last night and began disassembling the movable parts that began rusting. I got the table cleaned up of most of the r...

The Woodshop - A Creative Maelstrom

09-13-2010 06:36 AM by wichle | 4 comments »

I posted a look at my shop tonight and found as I sorted out pictures to find 6 appropriate views that my shop has changed over the past few months. I added dust collection to my miter saw. I moved my router table from one wall to another. I moved tools stored on the walls from one spot to another. I put some tools here to fore in the tool box on the wall. Looking at the pictures gave me some more ideas to “streamline” my small basement shop. When I check in nightly to read posted LJ...
