I am working on both tutorials for a couple of reasons, to correct many areas that were unclear and to add in all the fixes I made in the comments sections. Some of the pictures I used were no longer showing up due to a glitch on the website I had them stored at and the tutorial made little sense without them. So I decided the text needed redoing also. I am very busy right now, but hope to get around to it soon.Stay tuned.Andy

HEAR YE, HEAR YE!! Yes, Virginia we now have definitive proof that cavemen did enjoy scooping coffee! In fact cromagnun man (and woman) were the precursor to modern day Starbucks. In response to my recent posting of a neanderthal period coffee scoop, that was presented alongside a lovely model crafted by my L/J friend Jerry W, it was suggested that we begin an archelogical study, a challenge or showcase if you will of scoops and spoons. Because it was my shamelessly (or was it shamefacedl...

Sometime last year I was approached by a client who wanted a very unusual staircase for a new house he was having built. It had to consist of a single beam with the treads straddling the beam. To make matters interesting, the beam had to have the shape of a compound bow when seen in plan view. To make matters even more interesting the beam also had to have concave sides when seen in section, wide at the top, narrow at the bottom. No structural plans were available and the architect had only pr...

Hi Everyone, this is my first time trying to do a blog. So please bear with me, I’ll do my best!I have had a lot of request to do a blog about my rings, I do 2 kinds of rings. The Lamination style and the Bentwood style, this blog is on the Lamination style. This ring is made out of Cocobolo, Brass and has a Mother- of-Pearl inlay. I start out with 3 thin squares of Cocobolo, about a 1.5”, I have a thin sheet of brass that I cut about the same size as the wood. I lay them out to o...

Ornate carving, not seen it before. Medallion is Warranted Superior, not sure it’s original. Repairs will be done, but I’m hoping for a pic of an original. Suggestions? Thanks!
EDIT: The saw’s ID is clear, refurb steps captured below. This saw will be resurrected one way or another…
Here’s the repaired handle.
EDIT #2:
Donor blade ID’d:
Cut, drilled and fit (broken orig. alongside):
EDIT: Done, see below.

Hey everyone, It was suggested that I start a discussion on how to find and harvest burls. Please give your input also.
I don’t deal with straight grain that often. I cut and sell burls for a living so here is what I know.
It is illegal to harvest a burl without permission. of course if it is on your own property you can give yourself permission. What I do is put an ad on Craig’s list saying I want your burls. Most people don’t know what burls are. So you don’t get that many calls....

How to make an Art Box
by Andy Campbell
Safety
Be safe! Guards, etc…may not be visible in the pictures. This is written for woodworkers of all skill levels. But, please keep in mind that this is not woodworking #101. I am writing this in a step by step manner that should be easy for a beginner to follow, but some basic understanding of tools and terminology is required.I ask that the more advanced woodworkers be patient and not be offended. I don’t wish to test your...

Hello to all and all are Welcome,
Intro:
Hi, my name is Kory Kiker and a couple of weeks ago Ms. Debbie contacted me about conducting an online class for those interested in learning the art of intarsia. I was very excited about the chance to share a few things I have learned in the last three years of doing intarsia art. Before intarsia I did a lot of wood carving so I hope this helps give each project more depth and definition. I will tell you now that most of the things I’ve lear...

The first Art Box I completed and later posted was “Rachels Box”. I wasnt sure how it would be received, but it was a big hit right off the line. It just recently topped over 10,000 views and is the most viewed box on LJ. Wow! http://lumberjocks.com/projects/tag/box/by/views
Its popularity and the ones that followed were what motivated me to post the tutorial which was a help to many.http://lumberjocks.com/Argyllshire/blog/9415
I still get mail asking about this style of box...
