I have been in the US Navy for almost 20 years an a Machinist’s Mate, which means a boiler operator and turbine mechanic. Last Monday I received the final approval for my retirement that will be the end of December. So the challenge is trying to find a set of plans for a nice shadow box. I am a woodworker and I should build one myself instead of buying one. If anyone has anyplans or tips on how to make one it would be appreciated.
Here’s my first attempt at video recording my work. I’ll add more videos and images as the project progresses. This is another customer request. It will be made of Solid Oak for the Star and Stripes and the dark lines will be Mahogany. The center will be stretched to creat an are for the flag to fit in and other metals. Thanks for looking! http://youtu.be/AyXemPePmvs
Well Dusty and I talked about the broken and fractured stained glass panel. The panel was insured for material costs but definitely not the 70 some hours that were taken to make the panel. Previous blog Dusty’s #5 starts here. First blog starts here. I didn’t start on making the frame for the stained glass panel because I wanted to make it to fit the actual glass panel. Since we had a delay. The breakage and the filing for the insurance claim, I thought that I’d make the frame to mat...
Not too long ago I was contacted by a young viewer on the A Simple Design of Ocala Facebook Page. Ryan Dellucky of Ponchatoula, Louisiana reached out and asked if I would be willing to donate a badge case or display case. When I asked him what it was for he told me about his grandfather. As Ryan stated, “My Grandfather at age 80 sadly passed away monday night and he was in a vol. fire dept. and he worked for The Times Picayune. He also climbed last year a 110 story building at the ag...
Hy Fellow Lumber Jocks and Guests. Here are a few pictures with 2 coats of the Rust-Oleum Ultimate Wood Stain American Walnut. I like the way it coats and provides a uniform color. Still more work to do on the table with fine sanding before the clear is applied. Please contact me through this post or email@example.com if you have questions or would like a table like this, one you saw on the internet, or have another design in mind. This one is based on a picture my client provided. T...

So I was asked to build this as a retirement shadowbox. Any ideas on how it’s going to turn out? How would you build it?
My next request…Build a shadowbox in the form of the old Hap Arnold Air Force wings. Ideas are welcome!
OK, so I decided to go with the Flag Display case. Shouldn’t take too long, and I really want to protect the flag and memorabilia. I started out with two rough sawn red oak boards that were in pretty bad shape. You can see in the picture that about 1/3 of the boards are splintered pretty bad. I figured that since the parts for this project are pretty small, I could manage to get enough straight grain out of these two boards and save some of the better lumber for other projects. Roug...
