“The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way. Some see Nature all ridicule and deformity… and some scarce see Nature at all. But, to the eyes of the man of imagination, Nature is imagination itself.” — William Blake, Letter to the Reverend John Trusler, August 23, 1799
Jason Tennant is grounded. He is rooted in his place with strength and dignity, not so distinct from the trees surrounding him.

Hallo to all my LJ friends!
I am proud to say that I have been invited to participate in an upcoming exhibition at Strydom Gallery in the city of George, South Africa. I will be exhibiting a variety of art furniture pieces as well as sculpture. This exhibition promises to surprise, so do try to attend! I know some of you are a long way from here but I have a huge barn on the farm, space for many LJ’s! Just fly in, I’ll collect you at the airport! There are some spare benches in my shop, en...

Whenever I travel, particularly since I got the bug, I make it a point to visit somewhere that houses things made of wood by known or unknown craftsmen so I can fawn over their wonderful creations.
I thought I should start sharing.
A few years ago I had the fortune to take a trip to Ireland. We were using Shannon airport as our arrival and departure hub. The very last day of travel, we decided to go and visit Bunratty Castle. I did not want to go at first, because it’s a recrea...

Wood and I….Sculpture
….while walking down the isles of life’s design,i was roiled enough to loose my way on a walk-about,the forest and trees no-longer fed this hunger within,and for days becoming years my dreams died as inaesthetic….
….that was in-deed the hole i dug until i had no-strength dig deeper,what came next was confronting my dragon and refusing his lies any-more,so i went back to the woods fearing to hope and believe what i might find,what i found was that ...

I’ve been working on this sculpture for a while at TechShop and at home. It’s taken a long time but I’m finally finished and wanted to share it with you.
Video of it In Action
Here’s my build-journal of sorts.
I started out with a vague idea of making a digital Victrola. I thought about making an iPod dock attached to an old horn but quickly abandoned the idea for a couple of reasons: it’s been done already (!) and it didn’t satisfy my artist...

Hi,
Glen is at a Lie-Nielsen workshop today & wanted to pick up some veneer at Artistry in Veneer.
Some of you asked to see more of Glen’s furniture. The video was taped on the last day of Glen’s solo show at the NJ School of Architectural at NJIT by a friend of ours Edison Lee, a videographer & rock climbs with Glen. We could not do all 23 pieces in the show, so we tried to highlight some.

This old Bear carving is being put to some good use, Maybe a Birdhouse.
The other day I heard a pecking noise, & discovered a Chickadee pecking on our Bear.
At first I thought he was eating ants, but I soon found out he was building a new birdhouse
inside the Bear. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He could see it was hollow, by peeking in a hole up above..
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here he turned around &...
Beginning in April, Michael Rea's fantastic visions of unreality will be on display at the Contemporary Art Center in Virginia. I bring this dose of culture to the Lumberjocks because of Mr. Rea’s preferred medium of temporal materials – unfinished wood, for instance.
“Standing on the shoulders of other people’s dreams could perhaps be the most pathetic of all dreams. The intent of my work is to create something short of its outcome. My goal is to create the idea of...
