Well, I was asked to put together a blog on how I made my segmentd ring. Since I had to make a new one for myself, (first one too small) I thought I would go ahead and do a step by step picture tutorial. My first time ever doing something like this , so hope it comes out OK.

Ok a little while ago I posted a project that was a box that was made to look like a basket weave. It is very striking to look at if you dont know how it is made and is really easy if you have a scroll saw. A few people were interested in the making of it so here goes-
First thing first get yourself a pattern, there are a few books about making basket weave boxes. Or alternately you could make your own.

Yesterday the first installment ended with all the holes having been drilled for the two pairs of hingesIt’s all Scroll Saw work from here! I took a few minutes first to police the area though. It had gotten a little out of hand, even for me!!The work begins with slicing off the waste area which exposes the side drilling.Next is the beginning of the shaping. Side cuts first. When it comes to building boats, I guess after 30 years of it I am a professional, but as a hobby woodworker I’m pretty new. Boatbuilding has given me lots of skills and abilities with tools but the scale of projects and the individual manual skills required to make small cabinets and art furniture are totally different. INTRODUCTION..
When I started experimenting with using my router for inlays I thought only in the context of straight lines since that was what routers did best. Unfortunately my tastes in designs included Celtic Art especially Knot-work which is mostly curves. These would obviously need some sort of template to guide the router.
