Well, I was asked to put together a blog on how I made my segmentd ring. Since I had to make a new one for myself, (first one too small) I thought I would go ahead and do a step by step picture tutorial. My first time ever doing something like this , so hope it comes out OK.
Here goes;
Wood Selection
The first step in making the ring is deciding what woods to use. As we all know, the selection is quite large. One of the most important things is color, but the most important is hardne...

Well, I been hanging around here at Lumber Jocks for going on a year now. I have learned so much from so many, and can honestly say I owe a lot of what I know today to the sharing of knowledge here. So after attempting my latest “Exploration” into the wild world of woodworking I figured this would be a good a time as any for me to pass along a little blog on how I did my “Dreaded Inlays” .....
Long story short, I was hit up by a coworker asking me if I could build h...

Hello to all and all are Welcome,
Intro:
Hi, my name is Kory Kiker and a couple of weeks ago Ms. Debbie contacted me about conducting an online class for those interested in learning the art of intarsia. I was very excited about the chance to share a few things I have learned in the last three years of doing intarsia art. Before intarsia I did a lot of wood carving so I hope this helps give each project more depth and definition. I will tell you now that most of the things I’ve lear...

Ok a little while ago I posted a project that was a box that was made to look like a basket weave. It is very striking to look at if you dont know how it is made and is really easy if you have a scroll saw. A few people were interested in the making of it so here goes-
First thing first get yourself a pattern, there are a few books about making basket weave boxes. Or alternately you could make your own.
Once you have a pattern- You need two different patterns( look closely as these are...

Yesterday the first installment ended with all the holes having been drilled for the two pairs of hingesIt’s all Scroll Saw work from here! I took a few minutes first to police the area though. It had gotten a little out of hand, even for me!!The work begins with slicing off the waste area which exposes the side drilling.Next is the beginning of the shaping. Side cuts first. These are a bear to cut!! Scroll Saws are not Chop Saws! They’ll do this sort of cutting, through about 1 1...

Hi all,
I wanted to make this blog in order to show the process I use to make the woven basket that is shown in my projects. This will be my first blog, so bar with me, please!
I didn’t come up with this concept of making these baskets, but after making 30 or so I feel I can make them better than the directions the author provided. These plans are available from Scroller Ltd. These are awesome baskets to make. And I sell them for a nice profit considering you are only using tw...

This Week I show you how to make a folding out feed table for your table saw. This design was based after an article and plan found in a 2009 issue of Woodworker’s Journal Magazine. Originally the plan was designed for a Cabinet saw with a Biesemeyer Fence System, so I had to make some slight modifications for my Porter Cable Saw. In this 3 part video series I show you a step by step on building this project as well as talk about the modifications I had to make. The Article and plans ca...

When it comes to building boats, I guess after 30 years of it I am a professional, but as a hobby woodworker I’m pretty new. Boatbuilding has given me lots of skills and abilities with tools but the scale of projects and the individual manual skills required to make small cabinets and art furniture are totally different. I am a real beginner at this stuff and am having a ball trying to learn everything at once. I retired five and a half years ago, following which my wife and I rebuilt o...

INTRODUCTION..
When I started experimenting with using my router for inlays I thought only in the context of straight lines since that was what routers did best. Unfortunately my tastes in designs included Celtic Art especially Knot-work which is mostly curves. These would obviously need some sort of template to guide the router. A cursory inspection of a typical Celtic Knot suggests that they are too complex for a simple template. However a closer examination and study convinced me that s...

I hope everyone was able to find the supplies that I suggested in the last part. If anyone had any trouble, please let me know, either through a personal message or on the comment section here and between myself and the others here, we should be able to help you.
We are now ready to apply our patterns to the wood in preparation for cutting. But first of all you need a pattern. I have made up a sheet of some simple shapes that you can use as a practice scroll saw pattern. Just click on ...
