I was asked by at least a dozen people over the last few months how I do my portraits. Particularly, how I get up to the point of actually putting blade to wood. In other words…… the Prep Work.
I thought I would make Part 1 of my “Portrait Scrollsawing in a NutShell Blog” cover just that topic – getting everything ready to actually start sawing.
The only “prep work” part I won’t cover in this section is designing the pattern itself – that will be at LEAST one, if not multiple future b...

There are many different avenues that one can take and still be on a creative path. While having choices is good, there are times when there are almost too many things to choose from and only so many hours in the day. While most of us are familiar with the phrase ‘spreading ourselves too thin’, there are times when things are not as defined as we would like them to be as far as which path to follow and it is hard not to want to do everything at once. I often feel that this is t...

Yesterday I got a little bit side tracked. Not really too far off the path I was heading, but just enough to change gears for a day and try something new. So it was for a good cause.
I often receive many comments from people that I call ‘regulars’ here on the Lumberjock site. Even though this site is quite large at over 50,000 members, as with any place, we seem to fall into a niche or corner of the site where we feel accepted and comfortable. I am not different, as when I wr...

I have spent a little time thinking about Video and Audio Podcasting.
I am Slightly Shy in both aspects of Video and Audio. But I have been working on this shiness by overcoming it in Video and Audio Podcast.
I have decided that, As long as I get my point across, others learn from my audio and video, then I am more satified with it then what I look like no matter how goofy or entertaining I may or may not be or even as boring as I may be, information, demonstrations and how-tos are a v...

Hi all;
After reading Douglas’s blog on marquetry I figured I would add a few comments about the fine art of marquetry.
Rather than do a lot of typing here, it’s easier to just provide a link to the page on my site.
I’ve always been a bit lazy. This is listed under the scroll saw index, as well as the veneering index.
http://www.prowoodworkingtips.com/Marquetry_Basics.html
I hope it provides some additional information for anyone wanting to give this a try.
