I keep seeing these posts pop up more often than not about the scribed line for dovetails, should you leave them on? should you scrap/sand them off? Some say it tells the joint was hand made, Others rightfully so say that the piece itself tells that it was hand made….
Should you make them with a scriber? Or a pencil? A pencil line is easier to remove, but harder to line up to as you are relying on eye sight, Whereas a scribed line with a knife is a no brainer since you just rest your...

I generally use pencils, but last year a co-worker came to me and said “I know you like to build things in your wood shop, but have you ever done any working with metal?” He then showed me a scribe someone had given him to use in HIS shop (he’s an amateur blacksmith). I was interested in trying these and so I put my creative side to pondering…. And within about two weeks I had made about 20 of them. Here’s where your knowledge of quality can really work in your favor. Most (used goods) stores dump all these together and put a single price on them. I look for Craftsman, XceLite and other name brand nutdrivers; I don’t trust the cheapies. The long shank black handled screwdriver uses 1” tips which can store under the white cap. I have a Snap-On one just like this (only shorter shank) which was given me new in 1966. This is a Cleco brand, but dead solid identical....
