I started this project for a friend a few months ago and will be putting the finishing touches on soon. It is a plywood box with pine face frame. I used my Kreg Jig for all the joints. This is the largest project I have tackled to date and has been a great learning experience. The plan has changed from the original drawings as we learned along the way. My wife might be a little upset that I have spent at least four times the cost of materials in new tools (and then some). I tell her it is an ...
My router kit came with a centering cone for centering baseplates on the router. It works fine, but I always found it a hassle to chuck in the bit blank and use the cone each time I needed to change baseplates. I frequently change baseplates to switch between bushing guides, large bit profiling, circle guide jigs etc. To solve this problem, I switched the panhead screws out for some tapered machine screws. Now when you screw the baseplate on, it centers itself. One less step each ti...
Hey guys….I have decided to build another workbench, as the “basic” workbenches like these:Unfortunately, these filled up quickly, and weren’t as stable as I would liked it to be.Being a hardcore gamer, I know how frustrating it is, to be busy clicking away and having the table shake, although I don’t play in my basement/garage shop. The same above applies with using a mallet and chisel, or a hand plane. When I use a mallet and chisel on my bench like the one abov...
Well, the decision has been made, and yours truly won the 10,000 screw grand prize in the Kreg User Community photo contest. I get to choose up to 3 styles of screw, and that’s no easy decision! I live in Iowa, about 30 minutes from the Kreg factory, so I’ve arranged with KregRep (on the User Community site) to drive to Huxley, IA to pick up the prize in person. I’ve also asked for a tour of the facility, and I’ll review my visit here in the next couple of weeks. ...
Kreg is having a photo contest with a grand prize of 10,000 kreg screws! All you have to do is post a picture showing how the Kreg pocket hole jig is important to you. Here’s my entry: I’M GONNA NEED MORE SCREWS IF I’M GONNA FIX THIS LEAK!!! Mark
I’m building an 18” V-Drum Sander from http://www.stockroomsupply.com/V_Drum_Sander.php Stockroom Supply. I was given a Particle Board piece to use as a top it’s laminated with a thin slick veneer top and bottom. I’d like to band the edges with Oak that I already cut and mitered. The question is how to attach the Oak to the Particle Board edges? I’m read plenty of horror stories about splitting the Particle Board when using screws and/or nails to attach it. ...
ever want to say – to hell with the high fahlutin joinery – and just screw the dang project together? i’m close people – real close – to doing just that. well, not really. just maybe a little. maybe. a bit. they’ll be unseen. i mean, they’re screws, there is a serious skill level involved. right? getting them straight, allowing for wood movement, choosing the right ones, placement, yadda yadda yadda. what if i put them in by hand? would...
