French screen doors #2: Making the grills

04-10-2012 08:20 PM by Craftsman on the lake | 3 comments »

In the last video, I began making screen doors for a set of exterior french doors. Today I started to make the grils. The owner wanted vertical slats that rose at least 24” as he has a medium sized dog that wil punch the sceen out without them. I’ve decided that a dog needs to go in and out so I’ll put the grills on both sides of the doors.Cutting the slats, About a dozen per grill was a long tedious task with sanding and all. Below is a short slideshow video with narrated e...

A few sewn things #2: Screen curtins for the shop

10-25-2011 07:28 PM by need2boat | 3 comments »

When designing the shop or should I say remolding a very small garage I decided to make the doors open out. It saves on space yes! but I didn’t really think about screen doors in the spring/fall. Working thru my first summer the bugs weren’t to bad and once it got really hot I used AC. Moving into fall however I really wanted to open the doors but the mosquitoes in my area can really be bad a night. I thought about screen doors or making frames that would sit in the door jam but s...

Shipping...Why Me?

06-27-2011 03:47 AM by robbinscabin | 22 comments »

As you might know, Hubby and I decided to pool our woodworking talents and start our own business. Being a new teeny, tiny business we decided to use a lot of “free” advertising like brochures, flyers around town, blogs, and Facebook. I have to admit…I was surprised by the results I’ve gotten from both “real world” and online. We’re closing in of 65 Facebook Fans and I’m being stopped in the grocery store to be asked about my latest door. Al...

Storm Door Inserts

06-23-2010 12:28 AM by Troy | 7 comments »

Several days ago, I was asked to rebuild a few storm door inserts destroyed by some overzealous dogs.  Dogs – 1 || Door Insert – 0  I hesitated a bit because it seemed liked a boring production item, but I am not one to usually turn down a woodworking project.  No better softwood  So I got some high-grade Douglass Fir and went to work replicating the screened versions. The mangled model was made with bridal joints in each corner and sep...

Apartment Projects #3: A Better Entrance

10-21-2009 03:09 PM by littlecope | 22 comments »

One of the very first things I noticed moving in over ten years ago was that the porch entrance had no screen door!! I arrived here in mid-January, in the dead of Winter, so it wasn’t an immediate issue, but it was on the top of my priority list for that coming spring. There are too many beautiful days, when it’s nice to be able to throw open the windows and doors and let some fresh air in. Of course, I didn’t want to also let in every manner of flying insect, cats, bats, et...

A Parrot IS NOT an Eagle!

05-18-2009 07:05 PM by robbinscabin | 9 comments »

As usual, LumberJocks has shown an interest for the photos that we really don’t want to share! So, I reluctantly post this first sad attempt of an Eagle here…NOT in my projects. I do agree with my hubby that Eagle #2 is much better! Oooh, I hate it when he’s right! ;~)

S.O.S.~~LumberJocks to the Rescue!

05-07-2009 06:44 PM by robbinscabin | 15 comments »

THANK YOU ALL!!! One hundred times…THANK YOU!!! When my router went awry…well, I could’ve cried. So many hours of work and I didn’t believe my mother’s gift could be salvaged. I sent out an SOS and boy did you all respond. Your ideas, tips and tricks were amazing but most of all your encouragment left me believing that I could FIX IT! So I headed downstairs and attempted my FIRST EVER patch job. While not perfect I think it’ll look just fine afte...

S.O.S.~~Disaster Mistake!

05-07-2009 03:54 AM by robbinscabin | 14 comments »

So, I’ve been down in the workshop just plugging away at a surprise gift for my mother. She thinks I’m working on a door for my Uncle’s 75th b-day (and I will~~eventually) but instead I’m working on a screen door as a gift for Mother’s Day. I’ve got about 16 hours of work in the jigsawing and carving and probably just as many in the design process. ! It’s the most complicated door I’ve ever attempted and it was going well until… my route...
