sawyer needed - mid atlantic

725 days ago by Chip | 9 comments »

I have a log I’d like boarded and need a sawyer with a portable mill that will make house calls. Unless I’m losing my mind (which of late could be the case), I seem to recall an article in one of the wood magazines this year or last that had an article about sawyering and the companies they used as examples were not to far from me (around philadelphia). Does anyone else recall this article and if so, could you let me know the name of the mag and the issue? Any help would be greatl...

Confidence

583 days ago by Eric | 8 comments »

Last month, I posted about my adventures in hand-cut veneer. I was pretty proud of myself for how well it turned out; I felt a bit like David fighting Goliath (Goliath being the giant hurdle of working without power tools) and cutting off his big fat head. I got several very positive comments both here and over on my personal blog. Michigan LumberJocks Picnic for Fall 2009

32 days ago by kshipp | 7 comments »

As a few other people have said already, we had a great time at the Michigan LumberJocks Picnic a few days ago. Rustics blog JockMike2s blog BillyJs blog SteveMI brought some of the projects he had been doing on his CNC router. It was really interesting to me that he used tinted stains instead of paint. He also made each one of us a commemorative plaque for the event on his CNC router. He even brought some tumbling block designs he was working on and showed us all th...

I have been building a database of sawmills and put it together as a Sawmill Locater where you can search by state to find sawmills that provide custom cutting services and sell specialty lumber. Locate a mill near you or many will ship lumber if you find they have access to exotic or hard to find species you might be interested in. Please follow this link to search by state: http://portablesawmill.biz/concrete

Amazing Tools #4: cedar shake saws

166 days ago by Gary Fixler | 4 comments »

This is without a doubt the scariest looking sawyer job I’ve seen yet. Check out how casually he thrusts his unsupervised hand at the 4’+ tall circular saw blade! There are many more videos of people in this job with these saws on YouTube. Scary stuff.

SAW BUCKS: TAKING THE BULL BY THE HORNS

419 days ago by TreeBones | 2 comments »

SAW BUCKS: TAKING THE BULL BY THE HORNS The First and Only Sawmill Forum to Put Sawyers in the Drivers Seat At last there’s a new forum out there that’s geared up for sawmill operators and it looks like “Saw Bucks” is just what the doctor ordered. Focused on sawmills and all aspects of the trade, Sawyers take the lead instead of being a secondary topic section like other sites where milling is not the main stream content but just a spin off. After seeing how each section add...
