Sawstop and Router Cabinet / Infeed Table / Outfeed Table Project

10-19-2010 12:56 AM by zzzzdoc | 462 comments »

At the very start, let me give all the credit in the world to Tedth66, whose project this is totally based on, and who has been graciously providing guidance as I build this. This is a modification of his design, adding a few details, and making it work for my shop. I have a 2 car garage / workshop that is tremendously space challenged, so I need to be clever about every square inch. On top of that, I enjoy modifying designs and making them work custom for me. So when I saw Ted’s ...

SawStop Cures the Idiot!!

11-11-2010 03:51 AM by DrAllred | 15 comments »

Well, I love the SawStop Table Saw, Technology is just absolutely great. So this is the story, and I am still able to type with all of my fingers, but one is a bit painful to do so. I was in the shop, working on some small projects that I have been toying with and making jigs to create them in an easier way than just brute force. I had just finished recovering a lot of 1.5” plywood from a pallet I got from work. In doing so I had to use the riving knife on the table saw as the gu...

New State, New Shop #2: Step 2 and 3 - the saw and the jointer...

We moved to our new home in northern Illinois more than a year ago and I spent a lot of time planning the shop, drawing plan after plan, searching the net for ideas and so on.To give her credit, my wife tired of the plans (even though I told her it was half the fun) and gave me a SawStop Professional Cabinet Saw for Christmas! If you wonder why I went hog-wild with a SawStop, I’ll tell you that one of my long-standing rules, even back in my days up north was “nobody gets injured, ...

Shop Organization #8: Workbench Cabinet (Part 1)

02-24-2008 05:36 AM by gizmodyne | 11 comments »

Time to modify the workbench. I built the bench a year ago. Currently it has a simple shelf for storage. The plan is to build a simple cabinet with drawers to store hand tools, possibly my routers, and other “stuff” Here is a pic of the plan from Matthew Teague’s Setting up Shop (same place I got the bench plan). The drawers are weird. The bottoms are glued and stapled up onto the box. The bottom then becomes the runners. —————&...

SawStop 10" Professional Cabinet Saw

05-06-2009 04:32 PM by hermance | 10 comments »

Not sure how many people have been waiting for this machine or watching the news on it, but it’s finally here. SawStop is finally releasing its brand new 10” Professional Cabinet Saw to dealers and woodworkers around the nation. This saw is a go-between model between their current industrial cabinet saw and contractor saw and provides a great piece of equipment for hobbyists and professionals a like. The saw comes available in two models: a 36” fence/rails model and a...

Amazing Tools #8: SAWSTOP on TimeWarp

12-18-2009 04:16 AM by Gary Fixler | 14 comments »

There’s a show on Discovery called “TimeWarp” which uses super high speed cameras to slow down all matter of phenomena to show what’s going on in the physical world at micro timescales. They had a call for entries after one episode and it got me to thinking that I’d love to see various woodworking things slowed down. Apparently they had the same idea last year, but I missed it. They put the SAWSTOP under the cameras, and the inventor even tried it on his own fing...

How Can I Not Buy a Sawstop?

12-23-2009 06:05 PM by Kacy | 19 comments »

Warning … the following is just me thinking out loud (or, actually, in type), and the rambling nature of the post pretty accurately reflects that status of my brain on holiday! I’ve been thinking about moving to a real (i.e., not a bench top) table saw for some time now, probably every since I moved to working with rough-sawn feedstock for my projects. I initially was going to do all of the straightening and flattening work with hand tools, which wasn’t too bad for wood ...

Sawstop PCS: Unbox and Review #2: Assembly

12-17-2009 05:15 PM by Morton | 9 comments »

The new Sawstop PCS is fully assembled! Everything I read on the internet about Sawstop’s great packaging was right-on; I was not disappointed! I unpacked the saw box and started reading the assembly instructions. On went the crank wheels, motor cover, extension wings, switch and tool holder. I of course cleaned the cast iron and then applied some T-9 Boeshield and wax. Next came the rails and fence. After the rails were on (which was very easy), the instructions said to put...
