I am working on a couple Pelicans that I am hoping to incorporate into a “big picture” somehow. They are done completely in hardwoods and I was thinking of perhaps sharing how I sanded little pieces such as these. I have already started and as you can see I still have pencil marks for an eye on one. However when I brought my camera into the shop to show how I was going to sand these lil’ pieces I noticed how dirty, (dusty, sawdust, etc.) my little sanding pads were. They are...
The same friend I had made the Gavel for, dropped by the other day. He asked me if I would carve Old Rusty’s name on this cross for him. Old Rusty had passed away one year ago on this very day, & he was missing his old buddy. It was quite a coincidence, Rusty died on my birthday in 2008. After I got started on it, I thought it would be nice to do a relief carving of Rusty. He was a Golden Retriever, so I asked my friend if he had any good pictures of Rusty. He didn...
You can contact me at email@example.com I’m not going to be able to write tomorrow so I am writting today. Now that you have your piece of wood picked out for your 1st spoon, let’s get started. I am sitting here with a cup of freshly made tea, with the wooden tea spoon that I made last night. I really liked this little spoon. I took my time (1 1/2 hours) making it. The grain is very nice and it is especially smooth and soft to the touch. SO, I decided to keep it…...
Nothing like having numerous projects to work on This lamp is very ribbon like; really flat but with lots of movement. It does have a small burl. The base will be cut down to size which will also shorten the lamp so that it is not so tall. We will scribe fit the lamp limb to fit the base. I have started sanding the limb and my husband has been working on the base.
I got the limb 100% sanded, my husband is inlaying turquoise in the base, next we will drill the holes for the cord. The dark spot you can see on the base is where we applied sanding sealer, there is a bit of rot so this helps harden the wood and it also keeps the glue from staining the wood when we inlay the turquoise.
Here is the larger coffee table base. Ready to be sprayed. We will spray them with Satin Polycrylic and most likely have to flip it upside down and spray the bottome with couple of coats and when that is dry, flip it back over and do the top part.
The creative process of building the supports for the glass top took longer than expected, but then again we always expect the unexepected, so then again we did expect it. Hahaha did that make sense? Anyway here it is, we are hoping to spray them tomorrow and sunday if the wind does not blow like mad.
So right now I am just doing a little easy 6×6x6 box for my girlfriend. I’m using poplar and I am going to paint it and maybe felt the inside of it. She’s in college and recently joined a sorority and i thought I would cobble together a little box and paint with Tri-Sigma Greek lettering, colors and symbol. In this case I’ve chosen the sail boat over the skull and cross bones. More to come….
