Handplane Restoration #25: Stanley 112 Update

11-26-2009 06:45 AM by WayneC | 5 comments »

Just a quick update. I ordered and recieved a Hock replacement blade for the plane from Craftsman Studio. While I was at it, I had a moment of weakness and also ordered a Hock burnishing rod. I really like Craftsman Studio, good prices and quick shipping. The burnishing rod comes without a handle so I enlisted one of my friends to turn a quick brass handle. The Hock blade is very high quality and I like the finish. Photos are below. I also have a some evapo-rust on order. Once t...

11-12-2009 04:11 AM by scrappy | 11 comments »

I have been doing some thinking about Grain Matching corners. We all see boxes that the wood has been wraped around to match 3 corners, but the 4th is allways off. I think I have come up with a way to match all 4 sides. I will be making a box when I can get back in the shop.(hurt my shoulder and LOML won’t let me play until next week) Will take step by step pics and post in this series for everyone. Keep an eye open for updates. If anyone else has a process for this, feel free ...

Working with Madrone Burl

11-10-2009 04:43 AM by OregonBurls | 9 comments »

Journal entry 11/9/2009 Working with MadroneBowl turned by David Gould from NY Proper handling and stabilizing of Madrone Madrone in a very self-destructive wood. I will crack and twist on you in a matter of hours even minutes sometimes. But don’t let that scare you. It is a beautiful wood to turn on a lathe or what ever the application. What you ask of the supplier: First of all make sure that you request sealing of all sides of the burl and not a thin coat. It has to be thic...

Downdaft sanding table

11-07-2009 07:28 PM by ChunkyC | 10 comments »

Guess it’s not technically a table per se maybe a downdraft table top. My last table just so happened find it’s way to the burn pile, it was a total pos and needed to be permanently retired. The dims are roughly 36”x24”x7-1/4” and made from 1/2” BB ply, 1/4” pegboard, and 1/4” hardboard (bottom). The dust collector is connected to the table via a 3” Johnny Flange. I modified the flange by cutting some of the “flange” part...

Episode 45 book case part 3

11-03-2009 08:03 PM by kosta | 0 comments »

Yo whats up everybody in this video I get all the shelves to the right width by planning them down. I had to make sure that the designs on the tops of the sides were straight because they were rough cut at the scroll saw. It tookbe a while to sand all the parts but I finished them off with 220 grit. www.kostasworkshop.blogspot.com
