Well Dusty and I talked about the broken and fractured stained glass panel. The panel was insured for material costs but definitely not the 70 some hours that were taken to make the panel.
Previous blog Dusty’s #5 starts here. First blog starts here.
I didn’t start on making the frame for the stained glass panel because I wanted to make it to fit the actual glass panel.
Since we had a delay. The breakage and the filing for the insurance claim, I thought that I’d make the frame to mat...

I thought that I would take a little time to show how we went about the construction of the hall table. This project is currently in the final stages but I can backtrack a little for the sake of discussion. Check back a little later and I will update with some pictures.
We started the table off at the lumber store. (almost my favorite place to be) We spent a good deal of time trying to decide what wood that we wanted to use and finally settled on Mahogany. We had some concern about the col...

The frame is easy to make out of pine, fir or any soft wood. We want to make it look precision yet old at the same time. The hardest part is convincing the sun to age your project for you 2000 years in about a few days time. The sun owed me for a few sunburns soooo… Just kidding, we’ll get to the aging part later.I remembered a frame I had seen at the museum in grade school. I jumped in my truck that weekend and went to the museum to look at ancient lacquered furniture. I took not...

I just looked at my workshop page and noticed that in the few months I’ve been on here I’ve been really busy building out my shop, I’ve made a few small purchases along the way and went all out this week and bought a few big items. I was invited to join a local group of woodworkers here and was introduced to craigslist as well as going to ‘The Woodworking Show’ here in Atlanta last weekend.
I’ve never been much for moderation or patience; I’ve really put a lot into my shop in a short amoun...

I actually measured very carefully three times; the bottom of the dado would be precisely 3 15/16” from the end of the board. I carefully routed all four dadoes, stopping at the right spot. Then I looked as the spacing, relative to the other grooves. What happened? I measured from the end of the board – exactly 3 15/16”. I looked again at my full scale plans and the measurements I had calculated – 3 5/16”! Dooh! Exact comments are deleted to maintain a fam...

I love Mission style furniture and am working on my first piece, a couch table that will be used as an aquarium stand. I’m trying to take my time with this one, it gets worked on a little at a time in between some of my smaller projects.
The table is red oak from HD. I don’t have a planer yet so I needed to buy lumber that was close to size and fairly finished. I want to try somethung in quarter sawn white oak next.
I just finished one side of the table and wanted to post...

Two days before Christmas, my wife casually mentions that she would like a jewelry box. Hmmm, don’t think the timing was very good. Having completed the 2×4 project, I decided to try to put together a jewelry box from the small pieces of wood laying around in my shop. I had a decent amount of 1/2” cherry, some figured maple, some oak, and a small amount of paduk. After spending a few days laying out a design and seeing if I had enough wood, I started cutting and gluing.Th...

Well I got a little more accomplished.
I did a little design change today, I removed what I called the chin at the bottom side of the heart.
I held a piece of stiff sand paper, & drew a cutting line, then proceeded cut off the chins.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Note; the cut off line.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A big improvement with no chins. I call this “Wooden surgery.”
Well, I started working on my 2×4 project today. Last weekend I picked up a bunch of 2×4’s at Lowes to construct a new lumber rack, with 1 to spare for the contest. I was a little afraid that one 2×4 wouldn’t be enough to complete the project, but it looks like I will have a few scraps left.
I cut some of the pieces today, 4 – 18” long pieces have been jointed and edge-glued together to form one plank (needed it to be a little longer than what is r...
I just wanted to check in to let anyone who cares know that I am still around and working hard! I recently purchased a used 26” Woodmaster drum sander and love it! I have also been busy working on my shop layout and dust collection system. I have been keeping up with my daily business and of course working on my house (for Mama!) and the addition. Christmas was great. I got a GPS for my truck to help me find my appointments easier! I will post some new pictures of my drum sander and rec...
