Providere, a Work In Process
Well I finished roughing out a shape of the last of four legs last night with the drawknife, and I thought I would post a picture of where the ‘in the process’ of Providere now stands.
1) Cherry backsplash, needs to enter into it’s hand sanding phase, starting with #120 grit….and ending with some slurpies….
2) Table top, needs to be worked some more on sides with a timber slick to get a better trueness….
3) End board...

On #3 of this series I flattened out a slice from a Birch stump. I went on & completed the job today. I also added it to My Projects. The size is about 25” x 20’ x 2 1/2” , & it weighs about 20 pounds. I made the motor cavity larger to lighten it up a little.
_The other day I routed out the backside for the clock motor.
I checked out the motor installation.
Carved some numbers on the face.
I carved a Maple leaf for the pendulum weight.
I hung the clock...

Martin has asked for blogs re: the big table challenge and I figured that since I am tracking the process of this “creation” I might as well follow the journey with some photos.
I re-read the rules to see if I was breaking any rules by posting the progress but I didn’t see anything that indicated that this was a “no-no” .. so here is the progress!
Photo 1: The Beginning The table will be mostly willow of course (Hey, Chip – here’s my addiction o...

Having successfully burned out my Dremel, I went for the cordless drill as well as my chisels. Judging by the amount of wood i still had to go through, I’d have likely killed another dremel in the process! I guess they are made for lots of different jobs, not so much hogging off wood for extended periods. I’ll definately be looking into those carving tools Dick suggested.
Didn’t take too long to get all three legs liberated from each other, was tricky with the “can...

Remember yesterday, I was thinking about getting rid of that big old Stanley Pin Router. After looking at what it can be used for, I’ve changed my mind. I dug out this big chunk of Birch sawed from a stump. (A logger was kind enough to leave it there after cutting it.) In about 2 hours I flattened the thing out, pretty handy hey.For all the years I’ve had this machine, my only thought of for using this was pin routing. I’m now going to make fence setup, so I can drill mortis...

Last time I merely defined the legs (or let the crack and grain define them for me), twists and all. Today, armed with some new attachements for the Dremel I cut two channels clean on though to the middle, “freeing” one leg, and nearly completeing the third channel to free the other two. Apart from the wood on the surface, this is some nice, hard wood, and was putting up quite a fight, so this is the progress so far. The Dremel was starting to heat up, and I think I’ll need ...

After finish our deck railing, I made this small chair for my Sweety. It’s dimensions are just right for her, but I can wiggle my butt into it with a slight struggle. It’s kinda like the three bears’ story. LOLI made another short<div>Making"> Video a Tag Alder Chair</div><div>color:#808080

Quick update after such a long (long) break from this project. As previously blogged elsewhere, the lamp will indeed be made from a single piece of lilac with the lower portion divided into three legs straddling a stone.
Took months of on-and-off pondering, and some brainstorming, but now, having worked out the next few challenging steps, I can put the “lamp back on!”
Today I took my Dremel to the cracks and splits on one end (after finally deciding which end was up) and...
