My Award for 2009 Lumberjocks Summer Challenge #1: MY CONTEST AWARD CERTIFICATE for 3rd PLACE CAME!

1831 days ago by Dick, & Barb Cain | 20 comments »

It came in the mail the other day, so I contacted Terry Desilets of CUSTOM BRANDING IRONS. I decided to order a custom design, instead of the stock. Terry was very helpful in helping me design my brand. He’s seems like a very good person to do business with. I sent him my signature, & he made a couple of design layouts of for me to choose from. I chose the design I liked the best, & sent my order in. He said I should receive it in a couple of weeks. SO NO...

Apartment Projects #22: The "Greatest" Picture Frame

39 days ago by littlecope | 20 comments »

Debbie and I love to rummage around at the backs of Department Stores (where they keep all the kitschy stuff) and search for Prints and Pictures to decorate our walls…We’re particularly fond of Photos, or artful representations, of the Icons of our generation… For example, we found this one waiting for us at a Target Store in Manchester… There are few alive who don’t recognize those four young men! Another that came home with us a little later was a Young M...

"Hobbit Holes in MyWorld" --by RusticWoodArt #26: Drupes and Drupaceous Nuts as Tung Oil

2188 days ago by frank | 19 comments »

Drupes and Drupaceous Nuts as Tung Oil So lets cut to the center of the fruit….like cutting to the quick, and talk about China Wood Oil, wood nut oil or just plain ‘tung oil’. And since we’re talking in the language of botany, maybe it would be best too first say that tung oil is not a true nut, but is a fruit that comes to us as a drupe or what is also called ‘stone fruit’. Definition of a drupe….stone fruit is: ’’a one-seeded indehisc...

Time for new storage.

1061 days ago by tom427cid | 18 comments »

Lately I have added to my accumulation of wood planes and unfortunatly run out of storage for them. I wasn’t to bad until my friend-who is cleaning out his shop and moving to smaller quarters-presented me with the wood planes that he had. So now the challenge is to come up with some sort of cabinet to keep everything in one place. All the way from a 28” jointer to a 6” trimmming plane, all the hollows and rounds,T&G sets, fillisters, sash planes, and leave room ...

Around the Shop #5: A Rustic Corner Cupboard

634 days ago by Don W | 18 comments »

This morning my wife decided what she wanted to do with an oak door we bought some time ago at a flea market. She wanted a rustic corner cupboard to hold some crocks. Now it was a bit chilly today here in the north east and I’ve got some white oak lumber to stack, but a nice fire in the new woodstove in the shop sounded like a really good idea. Out to the shop to find some rustic lumber. So the vision…... Now I didn’t take as many pictures as I should have, but ...

"Hobbit Holes in MyWorld" --by RusticWoodArt #18: Reflections on Beavers and Trees

2229 days ago by frank | 18 comments »

Reflections on Beavers and Trees Out here in the woods, I am part of a whole picture where what happens with wood….also happens to all involved with wood, plus those un-in-volved with wood….hmmm, are any who are really non-existent from wood? Can a worker of wood be selfish and think that it’s all about wood and that all else will just have to take care of them-selves. Well the answer is yes and no, one can be selfish and think only of their needs when going for wood, but...

Intarsia Basics #2: Preparing Your Wood and Pattern for Cutting

869 days ago by KoryK | 18 comments »

Intro: Hello to all and welcome to the first installment of Intarsia Basics. Before we can start cutting we need to select the wood we want to use and get our pattern ready. Wood Choices: I prefer to start with stock that is one inch thick because that gives you a lot of depth that you can work with. It will require a little more sanding on some areas but it will help to give your piece a 3D look. It is your choice if you prefer to stain your wood to achieve the colors or use exot...
