Table Challenge #3: First stages

972 days ago by MsDebbieP | 70 comments »

Martin has asked for blogs re: the big table challenge and I figured that since I am tracking the process of this “creation” I might as well follow the journey with some photos. I re-read the rules to see if I was breaking any rules by posting the progress but I didn’t see anything that indicated that this was a “no-no” .. so here is the progress! Photo 1: The Beginning The table will be mostly willow of course (Hey, Chip – here’s my addiction o...

45 days ago by OregonBurls | 32 comments »

Hey everyone, It was suggested that I start a discussion on how to find and harvest burls. Please give your input also. I don’t deal with straight grain that often. I cut and sell burls for a living so here is what I know. It is illegal to harvest a burl without permission. of course if it is on your own property you can give yourself permission. What I do is put an ad on Craig’s list saying I want your burls. Most people don’t know what burls are. So you don’t get that many calls....

My Award for 2009 Lumberjocks Summer Challenge #1: MY CONTEST AWARD CERTIFICATE for 3rd PLACE CAME!

97 days ago by Dick, & Barb Cain | 20 comments »

It came in the mail the other day, so I contacted Terry Desilets of CUSTOM BRANDING IRONS. I decided to order a custom design, instead of the stock. Terry was very helpful in helping me design my brand. He’s seems like a very good person to do business with. I sent him my signature, & he made a couple of design layouts of for me to choose from. I chose the design I liked the best, & sent my order in. He said I should receive it in a couple of weeks. SO NO...

Definition of a drupe….stone fruit is: ’’a one-seeded indehisc...

"Hobbit Holes in MyWorld" --by RusticWoodArt #18: Reflections on Beavers and Trees

494 days ago by frank | 18 comments »

Reflections on Beavers and Trees Out here in the woods, I am part of a whole picture where what happens with wood….also happens to all involved with wood, plus those un-in-volved with wood….hmmm, are any who are really non-existent from wood? Can a worker of wood be selfish and think that it’s all about wood and that all else will just have to take care of them-selves. Well the answer is yes and no, one can be selfish and think only of their needs when going for wood, but...
