It’s time for everyone’s favorite topic: finishing! I plan on using polyurethane to finish my Sitting Bench Step Stool, and this time, I’m not going to use an expensive specialty varnish. Instead, I’m making my own wiping varnish by diluting some good old Minwax Polyurethane 50/50 with mineral spirits. Just a quickie video encouraging everyone to rub out your poly or lacquer finishes. This is really a simple method that I use all the time to get a nice, bump-free, satin finish. There are a lot of ways to rub out a finish — all the way up to a high-gloss piano finish. But this one will get ‘er done fast and you’ll be pleased with the results.
