About twenty some years ago I bought a professional door making router bit set made by Freud. Included in the set, which I still own and use even after making hundreds of doors with it, was plans for a router fence.
I bought the set for the first set of raised panel doors I made. The doors were for another contractor, and he needed them pretty quickly.
After seeing the plans I realized I could make good use of a fence like that. It had the same adjustments as a shaper fence. The left an...

to make my routing work environment more enjoyable i added a few different dust collection systems to my router table. as well as showing the fence that i made for it. first I’ll start off with the fence. it has a 2” opening that goes up high about 3 1/2” to allow for higher bits. so the fence is about 6 inches high for maximum support. and about 2 inches longer than the router table on both sides for maximum work piece support on both the infeed and outfeed sides. so here i...

Well I figure I’ll introduce myself by sharing a new series to document my latest project… yet another router table ;). This one is… well, will be, a cross between Norm’s, chazmonro's here at Lumberjocks, and jasnance's over at Flicker. I liked the idea of trying a torsion box. I also like the idea of a vertical drawer to hang wrenches, inserts, and such. Yes I’m a newb (albeit and old newb), so if anyone sees any errors, or has any suggestions I’d apprec...

so my router table project has come to an end. i got my shipment from Lee Valley today and i am happy to say that everything is completed. first upon getting the 2’ T-track i cut it in half with a jigsaw and a metal cutting blade. then i epoxied the track into place. i used a board of mdf to distribute pressure and my two former table saw wings which are probably around 20 pounds each on top.
then i just drilled for and installed the t bolts and put on the knobs. and when the fen...

After my slight diversion into metal working, I’m back to working on the wooden parts of the router table…
Gluing up this face frame was pretty straight forward, however the frame is made from cherry from my own property, and that’s just plain cool :). Even though it has been air drying for a couple years, I have a feeling it still has a pretty high moisture content (no meter). This piece is quarter sawn and has some real nice ray fleck.
Here again I was a...

Here’s what I have accomplished in the past week or so…
Drawers:So last time I talked about my drawer construction and my not-so-orthodox method of “biscuit-slotting” them together (the “don’t try this at home, kids” method). I got scolded for that a little, and for good reason. It probably wouldn’t have lasted as long. So I ended up just shooting them full of brads to reinforce them since I figured out that the brads would be hidden by the s...

So, No more messin’ around! Its time to cut the hole!
With my template all biscuited and glued up, I shaved off the other half of the biscuits and sanded everything flat. With a little sanding and shaving off the inside I got the router plate to fit perfectly inside. So I decided to use my fabricated router plate template to make a one-piece template. This way I could also test the accuracy of it.
So I sandwiched together the template, one solid piece of plywood which would be the...

Let me just start by saying…I hate to rout MDF!!!! Thank goodness for the respirator, air cleaner, and dust collector. That stuff is nasty to cut, but routing it definately takes the cake on the least favorite things to do list.
Anyway, when we last left off, I was about to install the table into the table saw. Because of the location of the hold in my TS rails, I needed to use screw inserts.
I friction fit the router table into the TS and supported it from below to keep it...

Last week I received the 17” Incra LS Positioner router table fence system that I ordered. Unfortunately I don’t yet have a place to mount it. If I previously had a full-size table, I could just add an extension to accommodate the positioner. However, my existing router table is a cheap benchtop unit made of aluminum, so it’s time to head back to the drawing board—literally.
I originally was going to purchase the 27” x 43” offset router table combo at...

I’ve been wanting to upgrade my router table and over time I’ve been accumulating the pieces. I’m building my table around the Incra LS 17 Router Fence and a Woodpecker PRL Router Lift.
I ended up ordering the 27 x 43 Woodpecker table top already drilled with a cutout for the LS 17 and the PRL.
I haven’t picked a router yet but I’m leaning toward one of the big PCs.
I’m basing my design loosely on Blake's Router Table.
My table top is not as wi...
