Norms Router Cabinet #3: The Electrical Work

425 days ago by sIKE | 9 comments »

Got back in the shop this afternoon and after two trips to the orange box I got all of the electrical work done. I am very happy with how it turned out. This is a custom piece much different from Norm’s plan. The switch is from Grizzly, I have the 12/2 wire on hand, the rest is from the orange box. Total outlay about $38. The switch works great even though it is mounted sideways. Here is a view of the internals.Below the switch you can see I finally got the 17/32nd drill bit in and star...

Fixing a Sagging Router Table Top

443 days ago by Karson | 12 comments »

The router table that I use is attached to my table saw. It sits on an angle iron support attached to my Incra TSII fence system (Upgraded to LS). To the right of the table surface. The top surface is two layers of mdf glued and screwed together, with Formica on top, bottom and 4 sides. The surface is 40” X 36. But since it is very heavy and especially with the 3HP router hanging in the middle with a Version 1 of the Jessem Router Lift, it sages. The table always sagged, s...

Shop evolution #5: Router Table #4: The Final Chapter...

501 days ago by ShannonRogers | 2 comments »

This is excerpted from my blog: The Renaissance Woodworker. So after getting the table top installed and making some cuts I was overjoyed with how it was working and the complete lack of setup needed to get cutting. The router lift makes my life so much easier. I used this table for my recent flurry of Adirondack furniture builds (10 chairs, 6 footstools, whew!) to round off all the edges on the slats. You can only imagine the pile of sawdust on my floor by the end of that session. I a...

Workshop in Progress #5: Router Table and Workbench

502 days ago by jstewart | 1 comment »

As I previously mentioned, I’ve made good progress on a garage workbench. I still need to put the facings (or whatever you call them) on the drawers. The facings are already cut out, but I’m waiting to decide on drawer pulls before I put them on. I’ve considered making some drawer pulls from rope to give the whole thing a different look than standard cabinet drawers. The back edge of the benchtop has some scrap MDF pieces laying on it to keep anything from rolling back b...

The Router Table Saga #7: Completed! Now for improvements....

509 days ago by Mark Shymanski | 6 comments »

Hello All, Prior to the Canada holiday here I had a few days overtime to cash in so I’ve managed to get in the shop and complete the basic frame of my router table (I’ll have to get pictures of it posted). It is nothing to boast about especially having seen some of the incredible examples here (it is great to have a goal to shoot toward for version II of this table). I am working out how to add a switch to the table so I do not have to fumble around underneath it to turn th...

Shop Updates #6: Router Table - Finished!

512 days ago by teenagewoodworker | 13 comments »

so my router table project has come to an end. i got my shipment from Lee Valley today and i am happy to say that everything is completed. first upon getting the 2’ T-track i cut it in half with a jigsaw and a metal cutting blade. then i epoxied the track into place. i used a board of mdf to distribute pressure and my two former table saw wings which are probably around 20 pounds each on top. then i just drilled for and installed the t bolts and put on the knobs. and when the fen...

Router Table #1: A router table for use with Incra Accessoriess

514 days ago by Lee A. Jesberger | 26 comments »

I guess about ten years ago I made a second router table for certain applications. Mostly it was to be used with Incra jigs and accessories. This table is a little fancier than the last one I posted ands does have a few advantages. For example there is no back to this cabinet. Both sides have the same door arrangement, so accessing the router is easier to make height adjustments. Also there is a lot of bit storage in the four vertical pull outs. These too can be pulled out to either ...

Router Table Fence #1: It's not pretty but...

514 days ago by Lee A. Jesberger | 12 comments »

About twenty some years ago I bought a professional door making router bit set made by Freud. Included in the set, which I still own and use even after making hundreds of doors with it, was plans for a router fence. I bought the set for the first set of raised panel doors I made. The doors were for another contractor, and he needed them pretty quickly. After seeing the plans I realized I could make good use of a fence like that. It had the same adjustments as a shaper fence. The left an...

Shop Updates #5: Router Table - Dust Collection

514 days ago by teenagewoodworker | 10 comments »

to make my routing work environment more enjoyable i added a few different dust collection systems to my router table. as well as showing the fence that i made for it. first I’ll start off with the fence. it has a 2” opening that goes up high about 3 1/2” to allow for higher bits. so the fence is about 6 inches high for maximum support. and about 2 inches longer than the router table on both sides for maximum work piece support on both the infeed and outfeed sides. so here i...

Shop Updates #4: Router Table #3 (with video)

515 days ago by teenagewoodworker | 20 comments »

alright so now everything except for the fence is put together and it is looking awesome. i added the apron and plugged all my holes with birch plugs just for the looks and i put on a coat of poly just to make the birch plugs turn brown because they are end grain so it looks cool, no other reason. i am planning on making the fence and also some form of dust collection and some storage for router bits and a couple other things. maybe even put some French cleats there. so here is a video...
