I guess this is kind of a venting process. Ive recently restored a few Bailey’s (#3 and 2-4’s) and its getting addictive. Ive cleaned some and Ive tuned some but putting a fresh coat of paint, polishing the brass, and refurbing the totes and knobs is very rewarding. Ive accumulated more baileys than I need, but when I see one I want to make it shine again(hopefuly better). Amongst other hand plane stuff I am “refurbing” my 4’s. ended up with a union in the ...

I got home from work this afternoon with a lot of things to do… I had been down to the Mechanics to see if the old black ute had arrived from the panel beaters..Not yet.. tomorrow… Its a 1962 Ford Falcon… full bare metal respray… all the mechanical and rubbers and suspension and brakes and interior have been replaced or reconditioned.. and new badges….will post pics if you want when I get it back…. picked up some XXXX Gold coolaid and checked My emails̷...

For the last few days at the end of last year ….LOL…I was very busy… I was designing a recessed base for my Lazy Larrys..I have just taken the time to post this….To start I have cut a circle of 5/8” plywood to mount the bearing.. this is roughly 300 mm or 12” in diameter as seen to the left in the first pic.This is accomplished by using the router to drill a hole in the centre.. the same size as the pin in the table. The other day I enthusiastically bought some fancy wood since I was making small stuff and wanted to try out some other material. And then I promptly forgot what I bought.

Until recently my lathe experience has been 50 or so pen/pencils, a few miniature goblets, and a couple small 5 inch bowls over the past few years on a Jet mini lathe, enough to want to try other lathe work. This past fall I was fortunate to have the opportunity to acquire a PM 3520B, but due to other work and priorities I’ve not had a lot of time to use it yet…and that’s “killing me”.

I was 22 years old in 1976. I was in college to get a teaching degree and at the same time also attending the Maine school of Guitar making (luthiery). For the next few years I made guitars and sold them to college students. I finished about 20 of them. When I graduated from college I had to live out of state and after two years of that got married. Work and family took me away from the smell of brazilian rosewood and sitka spruce.
