Ridgid R4511 fence upgrade and router table extension #1: Fence Upgrade Delta T2 on Ridgid R4511 and router table extension

907 days ago by john1102 | 4 comments »

I decided to upgrade the standard fence that was on my Ridgid R4511. Mainly this is because I needed longer rails for an extension (future router table) and never felt the fence/rails that were issued on the saw were substantially stout. To start with the rails that are sent with the Delta T2 don’t match the existing holes, I figured this would happen. (I chose the delta since the Steel City Fence that does match this saw was approx $400 that does match the holes exact). I dri...

Decked Out Ridgid Model R4511 Table Saw #11: The Final Upgrades

961 days ago by Paul Stoops | 3 comments »

This blog chapter discusses the final upgrades I made to my Model R4511 tablesaw. Upgrading the Blade Insert As with most tablesaws, the stock blade insert is a metal die casting with a wide slot to accommodate both vertical and bevel cutting. However, the wide slot does not provide adequate support of the material, particularly when cross cutting. The lack of material support adjacent to the cut is especially noticeable when cross cutting hardwood plywood, which frequently has very thi...

Decked Out Ridgid Model R4511 Table Saw #10: Tilt Indicator Redesign

962 days ago by Paul Stoops | 6 comments »

As shown below, the Tilt Angle Indicator furnished with the Model R4511 was typical of most tablesaws — a sheet metal pointer secured to the arbor tilt mechanism. These pointers are somewhat fragile and easily bumped out of alignment. This one was bent when I received the saw, and you can see from the worn off paint that I didn’t do a very good job of straightening it (while on the saw). At best, this type of device provides a very rough indication of actual blade tilt ...

Decked Out Ridgid Model R4511 Table Saw #9: Relocated Tilt Handwheel -- Finally Making It Happen

My Turn-The-Corner-Thingy Selection My first choice was to use a small right angle gearbox, but I was unable to come up with any miniature ones with my Google searches. Fellow LJer DIYaholic pointed out some really skookum looking ones yesterday from sources that I somehow missed when I was searching. (Thanks, Randy – I tucked those references away in my Turn-The-Corner-Thingy file for future projects.) Had I seen them, I might have gone that direction. The only right angle gearboxes I cou...

Decked Out Ridgid Model R4511 Table Saw #1: Introduction and Background

After moving into a different house with a very small shop, I had to leave behind my beloved General Model 350 3HP cabinet saw with Delta Unifence and 50 inch rails…....... :-( However, after much research and positive reviews on LJ and other forums, I purchased a Ridgid Model R4511 Hybrid Table Saw in 2009….... :-) I was much impressed by this well engineered tool with so many features offered at such a favorable price, especially with the sale going on at Home Depot at the ti...

The Great Garage Reorganization and Shop Improvement Act #8: A Little Extra Support

1506 days ago by captkerk | 6 comments »

I finally got around to finishing an outfeed table for my Ridgid R4511 table saw. This is the first time I’ve had a dedicated outfeed table (or a table saw with a fence extension either) so it was really nice to use it for cutting sheets of plywood. I basically stole the idea from this guy: http://www.ridgidforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29941 And he basically stole it from here: http://sawsndust.com/p-outfeed.htm But this is what mine turned out like:. . ...

Ridgid R4511 Vibration

1576 days ago by falegniam | 8 comments »

Hello,About a week ago I purchased this great Ridgid R4511 Tablesaw. It’s an unbelievable upgrade from my 20+ Sears 10” tablesaw. It’s all set up, and squared off. I purchased a piece of phenolic so i can make zero clearance inserts. I have searched for high density plastic faces for the rip fence, but have been unsuccessful, so i will order a piece of high density polyethylene from usplastic.com. One problem I’d like to resolve is the vibration during speed down of th...
