Review: Steel City 8" Industrial parallelogram jointer 40605

314 days ago by iannlb | 4 comments »

Wow quite an ordeal, order placed 18Nov. 2007 recieved 2 weeks later. The crate of the jointer base was smashed apart on the infeed end. The manager of the local WoodCraft store (1.5 hours away) told me don’t worry about it if its damaged they would replace it. I took home both boxes ( mistakes 1&2). The jointer base was crushed in 5/8 in the center of the front and back to the point of the logo popping loose. Woodcraft said no problem we’ll order another one. On 19 No...

New to the hobby, a look inside the beginners mind. #1: the first few tools in the shop

331 days ago by Jason Wheeler | 6 comments »

I have to say setting up a wood shop is just as much work and cash, if not more, then setting up a steel shop. Luckily a few of the steel tools are useful and will come in handy to the wood shop. I have also a few tools from a set of cedar drafting drawers I built oh, 5 years back. It was a one time thing and at the time living in an apartment, dust was every where. All I really had was a Dewalt biscuit joiner and a random orbital sander, that was it. A pic of the cedar drawers, mmmm they ...

Toy Giveaway was published.

347 days ago by Karson | 5 comments »

The toy giveaway for the Mason – Dixon Woodworkers Club / Toy Workshop was published today in the Seaford Star. A local newspaper in Delaware. It was a great article. Here is the blog on our giveaway day. Another interesting note. I got a call from a lady named April that works for the State of Delaware working for the RSVP program (Retired Seniors Volunteer Program) We report out time that we volunteer to them for credit. She called me this week and told me that the Caterpilla...

Reviews #1: Basic Box Making with Doug Stowe - a review

351 days ago by Tim Dorcas | 5 comments »

I have watched this DVD about 5 times now. I will watch it another 5 times before Christmas. When it is all told, who knows how many times I will watch this. It’s that good. I like to make boxes myself and I am continually trying to refine my approach. This video really makes it all seem very doable. In his very plainspoken way, Doug takes us from stock preparation to jigs to the various ways of constructing the box. Miters, miter keys, finger joints, hidden splines, lap joints...

Ezee-Feed Manufacturing #2: Ezee-Feed Demo

354 days ago by David | 16 comments »

Click for Hi-Resolution Video Woodworkers throw away your roller stand once and for all! My last Ezee-Feed video was a bit of a teaser as I unpacked and started the installation process. Well I finally got the Ezee-Feed system installed on my saw. What a sweet accessory! I have a very small shop. This system allows me to cut sheets of plywood without any help. As a side note, my saw guard was left off for clarity while shooting the video . . . something I would not do on a regular ba...

Two days in The Shop of Charles Neil

356 days ago by mikega | 8 comments »

Well I thought I would try my hand at my first Blog. This past weekend I got to go down to New Market VA to spend some time with Charles Neil. Many of you know Charles from the Lumberjock site and through his YouTube and DVD videos. So I hope I thought I would tell you a little more about him. Hope this works. Two weeks ago on Sunday after I just finished putting the last piece of trim on a Keeping Chest that I started with Charles back in October he called and invited me down to New Mark...

Tool Cabinet #1: Requesting input on my plans...

360 days ago by Sgt_Lobo | 16 comments »

One of the good things about being in the Air Force is that, if you aren’t deployed, most of us can expect to get a good amount of time off around the holidays. I’m expecting a little over a week off between Christmas and New Years, so I though I’d better start another project to keep me busy and out of trouble. While working on my Xmas projects I needed a nail punch. I spent 3 hours looking around my garage before I finally found it conveniently placed underneath one o...

Reviews - Books #2: Router Books

405 days ago by Dekker | 1 comment »

When I first started wanting to buy a router, I went out and bought some books on routers to give me an idea of what I could do with them, what to look for in a router, and also some jigs that would let me use them effectively. Well, at the time, The New Router Handbook (Patrick Spielman, 1993, Sterling, ISBN 978-0806905181) was the book of choice that was recommended reading. I picked up a copy and was absorbed by the world of routers, what they could do, what makes a good router tabl...

Reviews - Tools #2: Router Depth Gauge

406 days ago by Dekker | 2 comments »

I got this tool last year as a freebie when I made an order from Rockler, and I just tossed it in my router table and promptly forgot about it. But now that I needed to do some precision router table work, I finally got a chance to use it, and so I’ll give a bit of a review. Though I’m sure there are other examples of the same concept, this one can be gotten from Rockler for $5.99. Though they illustrate the gauge being used directly on the router, it is also useful for ...
