My RV Renovation #1: What not to do when buying a used RV :(

02-15-2008 05:07 PM by Irwin | 4 comments »

Hello All, I had wanted an RV for years and I had finally settled on a travel trailer. Well we had a tent trailer for a number of years but they were just a lot of work to put up and take down so we began thinking of which kind to get. I would spend every waking minute, it seemed, pouring over craigslist and finding that RV prices were pretty steep even for the older ones. During this time, my grandmother unfortunately passed away. As part of her estate I was granted a sum of money and ...

How to find and harvest legal burls!

10-13-2009 05:44 PM by OregonBurls | 37 comments »

Hey everyone, It was suggested that I start a discussion on how to find and harvest burls. Please give your input also. I don’t deal with straight grain that often. I cut and sell burls for a living so here is what I know. It is illegal to harvest a burl without permission. of course if it is on your own property you can give yourself permission. What I do is put an ad on Craig’s list saying I want your burls. Most people don’t know what burls are. So you don’t get that many calls....

These are the pictures after I completely took this saw apart, lubed it, removed the majority of the rust, repainted, and reassembled. All i have to do now is to finish hooking up the switch and this saw will be ready for a top.

Saw Restoration #2: 75 Cent Disston Saw

10-24-2012 03:07 AM by gilleseg | 3 comments »

The wife and I went out to a local flea market a week ago, looking for nothing in particular. This was the last flea market for the year at this particular venue and the first time we had been this year. I cam across a pair of saws, painted and looking sad. They had tags on the at $1.50 each. I was looking at them and wasn’t sure if I wanted to take on a couple more saws, when the proprietor came around and told me everything was half off. She said it was on account of wanting to cle...

My RV Renovation #2: Let the Demo Begin!

02-20-2008 04:27 AM by Irwin | 3 comments »

Here’s a tell tale sign that moisture is doing a number in the walls of your newly purchased 5th wheel RV See how the awning bracket is pulling away from the siding? It was due to the water tank leaking for years and no one wanted to fix it. Here’s the result of the leak As you can see there isn’t anything holding up this back corner of the trailer, but the damage didn’t stop there. Here is the other side of the wall after I demoed the dinette This was in additio...

Staining Comercial Wood Putty?

05-18-2011 07:25 PM by Roz | 19 comments »

Can anyone tell me how to get a good staining on a commercially available wood putty like Elmers? Several years ago I stopped using and substituted a glue and sawdust mixture on any projects where the repair would show and appearance mattered. Appearance almost always matters on my project, if only to me. I recently found myself using the commercially made putty while refinishing a floor and as normal, it stood out and would not accept enough color to allow for a match. I am not happy...

Make a Folding Out Feed Table for your Table Saw

02-20-2013 05:22 PM by WoodJediNTraining | 16 comments »

This Week I show you how to make a folding out feed table for your table saw. This design was based after an article and plan found in a 2009 issue of Woodworker’s Journal Magazine. Originally the plan was designed for a Cabinet saw with a Biesemeyer Fence System, so I had to make some slight modifications for my Porter Cable Saw. In this 3 part video series I show you a step by step on building this project as well as talk about the modifications I had to make. The Article and plans ca...

Craftsman Radial Arm Saw #1: Craftsman Radial Arm Saw... Oldie, but is it a goodie?

02-16-2009 03:29 AM by interpim | 10 comments »

I found this saw for $20 today on Craigslist. It is a bit rusty and I need to replace the power cord and grease it up a bit. Tell me if I bought a giant paper weight, or if I found a steal. The motor does run, but the cord has a bit of exposed wire. I plan on getting rid of the rust, greasing the entire thing, giving it a fresh paint job and a new table and base. Well, here it is in all it’s glory, or gory… you tell me :) Also, if you know what mode...
