Constructing a Modern Sofa Table - The Video

1524 days ago by Todd A. Clippinger | 21 comments »

Share the Love This modern sofa table was built for donation to a charity fundraising auction. This slideshow was played to generate more interest in the table by highlighting the construction process. Generating more interest generates more money for the charity. The auction was a bit disappointing overall, but my table brought in the more money than anything else. Funds raised at the auction help support programs for people with developmental disabilities. The winning bidder ask...

2302 days ago by Todd A. Clippinger | 34 comments »

Exciting Progress.. I am making some great progress on my closet project. I currently have the copper rods in a machine shop where the parts are being fabricated. The clients and I had talked about changing the lights to better illuminate the fine work that I have produced. While the metal work is being done I decided to go ahead and install the new lights. WOW! Man-OH-Man! Does it ever look fantastic! Here is the closet with the old lights: Here is the closet with the n...

Casket Interior and Delivery

2513 days ago by Mark A. DeCou | 5 comments »

—————————————— UPDATE 3-28-2012:After Posting my Casket Stories and Photos, I have been overwhelmed by the response from readers. There is quite a thread of folks wanting to help in their funeral plans by building their own casket, or building one for a close friend or family member. All of this internet attention lead me to a teaching invitation at the John Campbell Folk School in the summer of 2011 on t...

Entry Closet Project #8: The End is Here!

2291 days ago by Todd A. Clippinger | 31 comments »

Finished! Well it’s been a long journey and it did not end without one extra push. I finished installing the copper handles Monday by 11:30. There was a couple of scratches but I was certain I could buff them out. This is a skill that goes with the territory. I worked on the finish for the next six hours and I could not get the finish to blend. How to Remove a Scratch- After exhausting all other options this is what I resorted to today: Yes you are seeing it correctly...

Christmas Projects #1: Started my Christmas projects.

2339 days ago by Sgt_Lobo | 1 comment »

Well, as I said in last night’s blog, today I started 3 projects that I need to finish in time to send off before Christmas. So I guess my insomnia paid off though because I was able to draw up my plans, measure and mark all my wood last night which made cutting today go allot quicker. So, today between baking pies and pumpkin bread, I managed to cut all my pieces to length, rip them to width, and miter the ends. Not bad for a days work. Heres some pics/teasers… 1st pic...

Hand Planes #6: Using the Cove Plane

659 days ago by A Slice of Wood Workshop | 6 comments »

I have a lot of projects that my wife (HI Nicole!) wants me to do involving wood. Well it never seems like they get done and I feel bad because I want her to be happy. She asked me to make her a little shelf to go over the back of the couch to place picture frames on or what ever else ends up going there. I figured this would be a great chance to practice some of my hand tool skills and see how it goes. I measured out the back of the couch to see what the length should be which was 78″. It is...

Anyone want Cedar Wood?

2492 days ago by Mark A. DeCou | 2 comments »

The other day I posted a couple of projects where I used some reddish-white wood, that we around here call “Cedar.” I don’t know what the species name is, some say Western Red, some Say Eastern Red, so I don’t know for sure. I received enough interest on the wood type from commenters to the project and emails,, that I did some checking around, and I found a local source for this red/white cedar wood with the aromatic smell if anyone is interested in it. It would c...

2363 days ago by frank | 2 comments »

Boston Red Sox Do It Again ....yes that’s right, that team from Boston, the Boston Red Sox just could not wait to let the dust settle on past experience, but this time they have proved to the Colorado Rockies that being good isn't enough. No curse for the Boston Red Sox here: “The Red Sox won their second World Series in four seasons Sunday, edging the Colorado Rockies, 4-3, in Game 4 at Coors Field. They are the first team to win multiple championships since 2000, and with ...

3rd Update on the Hymn Number Stand

2453 days ago by Mark A. DeCou | 9 comments »

I had a nice weekend. Saturday I worked with a local cabinet maker helping him catch up on his schedule. We are nearly finished with the 3rd kitchen cabinet job, and then he will be caught up. I think I have worked about 8-9 days this summer with him on Saturdays. Sunday was relaxing, went to church and then home with the family, and a nap. A nap makes a lot of things better for some reason (not to take anything away from church). Today, Monday, I have the Hymn Number Board just abo...
