Christmas Projects #1: Started my Christmas projects.

11-22-2007 07:08 AM by Sgt_Lobo | 1 comment »

Well, as I said in last night’s blog, today I started 3 projects that I need to finish in time to send off before Christmas. So I guess my insomnia paid off though because I was able to draw up my plans, measure and mark all my wood last night which made cutting today go allot quicker. So, today between baking pies and pumpkin bread, I managed to cut all my pieces to length, rip them to width, and miter the ends. Not bad for a days work. Heres some pics/teasers… 1st pic...

Trinket/Shadow Box (Iraq Display) #2: The Hinges

11-09-2007 05:22 AM by Sgt_Lobo | 5 comments »

Well, yesterday I decided to mortise my box to accept the hinges. I don’t have a jig for this, but since they are very small hinges I decided to free hand them with the router and a straight bit. I practiced a couple of times on a piece of scrap and got the depth perfect, then I made my cuts on the box and they turned out great! Next I decided to connect the lid and the box with the hinges and here is where the problems started… My original plan was to connect the lid to the...

"Boston Red Sox Do It Again" --by RusticWoodArt

10-29-2007 01:44 PM by frank | 2 comments »

Boston Red Sox Do It Again ....yes that’s right, that team from Boston, the Boston Red Sox just could not wait to let the dust settle on past experience, but this time they have proved to the Colorado Rockies that being good isn't enough. No curse for the Boston Red Sox here: “The Red Sox won their second World Series in four seasons Sunday, edging the Colorado Rockies, 4-3, in Game 4 at Coors Field. They are the first team to win multiple championships since 2000, and with ...

Western Red Cedar

09-12-2007 06:29 PM by Bill | 8 comments »

This was an interesting article on Western Red Cedar. Funny thing is, I live in California and the local lumber yards do not carry Western Red Cedar. They do carry Cedar for fencing, but nothing else. And they wonder why I specifically want Western Red Cedar to build outdoor furniture. Oh well, maybe I will find a source yet.

the woodpile #2: Saving Stock for the Winter

08-24-2007 01:02 AM by scottb | 13 comments »

It’s quickly becoming my favorite time of year. The gardens and farmers markets are overflowing with their bounty, almost everything is fresh and in season, the days are becoming comfortable – not yet crisp, but not too hot. Time to preserve and make preparations for the winter. The freezer down in the basement (shop) is almost completely stocked with goodness to keep me going well into next year! I promised “more about this later” during my shop tour... so here it...

4th (Final) Update on the St. Anthony Hymn Number Board

08-04-2007 01:38 AM by Mark A. DeCou | 10 comments »

This week, I’ve been finishing up the Hymn Number Board for the St. Anthony Catholic church in Strong City, KS. Final assembly, glue, number plate holders, stain, finish, and gold-powder painting, and it is all finished now, ready for delivery to the church on Saturday. This is my Original Design, and it looks nothing like anything I have seen before, although it has design elements of things I have built in the past. I built it to match the other furnishings of the St. Anthony chu...

3rd Update on the Hymn Number Stand

07-30-2007 08:15 PM by Mark A. DeCou | 9 comments »

I had a nice weekend. Saturday I worked with a local cabinet maker helping him catch up on his schedule. We are nearly finished with the 3rd kitchen cabinet job, and then he will be caught up. I think I have worked about 8-9 days this summer with him on Saturdays. Sunday was relaxing, went to church and then home with the family, and a nap. A nap makes a lot of things better for some reason (not to take anything away from church). Today, Monday, I have the Hymn Number Board just abo...

2nd Update on the Church Hymn Number Board Commission Project

07-24-2007 02:59 AM by Mark A. DeCou | 11 comments »

Today, Monday, I took photos of what I have accomplished on my Hymn Number Board that I am building for the St. Anthony Church in Strong City, KS. On one hand, it seems like I made a lot of progress since my last blog late last week, but when I look back over the photos tonight, I can see that the number of hours it takes me to do this tedious work is mounting. I started the project with the previous blog: http://lumberjocks.com/jocks/decoustudio/blog/1508 Also, since I had enough in...

Work Progress on my current Commission for the St. Anthony Church in Strong City, KS

07-20-2007 08:54 PM by Mark A. DeCou | 13 comments »

I have received some correspondence lately asking about what I am doing right now in the shop. So, I thought I would post a little progress on my current commission piece. The people at the St. Anthony of Padua Church in Strong City, KS asked me to build a Hymn Number Stand to match the other pieces in the church I did earlier this year. Here is a list of the other projects that go with this commission that I have already completed, some have been posted as projects, while others haven...
