One of my first ideas for this challenge was to make a “green” table – as in recycled, not painted. After weeks of pondering, and ultimately ignoring the problem of where to begin, and more importantly, what to use, I remembered that I had this door sitting in my shed.
It may have been original to the house, but has been collecting dust for the past 5 or so years since we bought the house and replaced the exterior doors – this one had dog door cut out of it and was ...

I thought I posted this as a project here, but it seems I just did a quickie at my old blog, just didn’t think it was so long ago…
Anyhow, I made this bench, almost entirely (save the faux breadboard ends) out of the closet shelf in my daughters room. (A girls gotta have two bars in the closet – or so I fear). Those two additional pieces were simply added there to get this bench to fit perfectly by the kitchen door, nestled in where the fridge used to be – the perfect place...

Here are a few of the boards we have been able to salvage so far. This is probably 1/3 of the Knotty Pine that is there. I will probably get half this much again and then let the building be destroyed. I just simply do not know what to do with all of it, have no good place to store it, and quite frankly do not have the time to keep going back home every weekend to work on it.
Trailer is 18’ x 7’
Most are 8’ – 9’, some 4’, some 12’, and some ...

I know it’s been a long time since I have updated this blog, but there hasn’t been much to update until now.
Reminder Picture:
I have all of the knotty pine off of the interior walls. I have also taken a portion of the studs home and cleaned it up.
Thanks to Les Hastings and the other guys at the Sunflower Woodworkers Guild, I now have a positive identification on the stud species. Ash. Yes, Ash. I would have never guessed, but am glad I decided to try and...

This is a cry for help really.
I have a house full of old knotty pine tongue & groove walls & ceilings. This house and this wood especially holds a special place in my heart. The house must be torn down, and you will all understand that I just can’t let all that wood go up in smoke.
There is approximately 3700lf of 7” boards. The longest being on the ceiling and are 16’. I have taken off a couple boards and ran them through the planer to see what they would...

A discussion about free wood led to some conversation about barn lumber. We have an old barn that came with this place, and I thought I’d share some of our efforts to keep it standing. This is not a majestic old barn built by a well-to-do country gentleman. This was built by a poor depression-era farmer out of whatever he could cobble together. Despite our efforts to keep it standing, we often have people stop by to “offer” to tear it down for us if we let them have the ...

I haven’t been too active on the site lately. But I have been making sawdust in preparation for antique fishing tackle show that I attend, and display at, each year as a member of a fishing tackle collecting club. I’ve shown past examples of all these projects in my projects pages. So, I thought I would just post the latest versions. Wish me luck this coming weekend.
I bill these as tackle storage chests, but they’re based on a machinist-type chest for small tools. T...

Somewhere on here I’d started a blog about our gazebo. I’ll have to go back and find the other blog entries.
We started out with a 10×10 tent gazebo purchased from Rona, and after the wind destroyed the frame, it became a wooden framed gazebo with the tarps for walls and roof. The weather has been rough on the tarps and we have had to start replacing the tarps with wood.
Other than the 2×4’s, we have used scrap pieces of everything and anything we could find ...

or another title option, I need more clamps!
There is nothing as great as an unexpected free day. Despite the fact I had to put in a 10.5 hour monday to get it.
We lumberjocks are a funny lot, while people are watching TV, movies, or playing videogames on an otherwise “free” or “mental health day”, we head down into the shop to work for our fun. And today I was no exception. I was going to see how much of “Box #3” I could get done!
I pulled out a c...

20 years ago, we put an addition onto the house. For the new bathroom/laundry room we put in a big vanity which, until this weekend, did not have the side facing the door finished. The tap that was installed needed two hands to pull up on the handle to turn it on and then you were showered with a splash of water.
Well, a couple weeks ago, my daughter and I painted the bathroom which inspired the renovations to the vanity. A new tap was installed—oh yah—it sits high above the si...
