Deal of all deals!

Today while browsing through Craigslist for a planer, I happened on a listing for a Craftsman Radial Arm Saw which I’ve always wanted to add to my arsenal of tools. When I read the ad and looked at the pictures, the price just didn’t seem right. I’ve seen ads where the person didn’t pay much attention to what they were typing and left off a 1 in front of the price so this seemed like one of those ads. I decided to call and see so the curiosity would not drive me batty....

Radial Dovetail Box Construction

2103 days ago by Woodhacker | 16 comments »

Some time ago I posted a blog about a dovetail joint I came up with. I call it the radial dovetail. It incorporates handcut dovetails, but rather than using the traditional 1:8 ratio for the dovetail angle for hardwood, each side of each tail varies and is drawn from a perspective point. Then the sides of the box were contoured to blend with the dovetail design. Here’s a picture of the nearly completed box. I am on my way to IWF, You know the Disneyland for woodworkers, and I need some help. I have two objectives this year. One to have a better finish and two replace my radial arm saw. I think I know what I going to do with the spray gun. I am replacing my airless with an air-assisted airless. Any comments on that would be helpful, but I am really concerned on my cross cuts. I don’t use the radial arm saw much anymore. It is an old craftsman. Will not stay square and wobbles to...

Shop Tools #10: DeWalt 925 Radial Arm Saw

2465 days ago by WayneC | 29 comments »

I have been resisting buying a Radial Arm Saw (RAS) for at least the last year. I have a great Sliding Compound Miter Saw, Router, and Table Saw. The only operation that seemed to be quick with a RAS that I could not easily do with the tools I have is making cross cuts using a dado set. Last week Blake posted a project where he did a wonderful job restoring a 1959 DeWalt Radial Arm Saw. I really loved the job he did. Sunday afternoon I was browsing Craigslist and saw an ad for a saw si...

Shop Tools #1: Would you have passed it up?

2621 days ago by WayneC | 16 comments »

My son wanted to get up this morning and go to some garage sales. I’ve been gone all week working and thought it would be a good idea to spend some time with him and his sister today. We happened across this drill press at a garage sale and I tried, but failed to pass it up. I have a fairly new Rigid Drill press with a Rockler drill press table and it works great for me. I thought long and hard about buying or not buying it. My biggest issue is space. This one has some addition...
