Epoxy Inlay #2: another one

11-30-2011 02:13 PM by JoeyG | 9 comments »

here is the finished inlay with the handle on the lid. It still has a little ways to go until it is complete but it’s getting there. I also said in the last entry that I would include my next inlay because it would have more carving in it. Here it is. A little back ground story to it. We have a family friend who ordered 3 boxes from me for the Christmas holidays. She also did some very nice things for my wife and oldest daughter. Since funds are a little tight around the house ...

How to find and harvest legal burls!

10-13-2009 05:44 PM by OregonBurls | 38 comments »

Hey everyone, It was suggested that I start a discussion on how to find and harvest burls. Please give your input also. I don’t deal with straight grain that often. I cut and sell burls for a living so here is what I know. It is illegal to harvest a burl without permission. of course if it is on your own property you can give yourself permission. What I do is put an ad on Craig’s list saying I want your burls. Most people don’t know what burls are. So you don’t get that many calls....

the clock #1: Working on my daughter's birthday gift

02-21-2011 07:58 AM by twokidsnosleep | 6 comments »

This has been long in the planning with many ups and downs. It is still not finished though her birthday is the 21st of Feb; I will be late with this, but make it as perfect as I can. I don’t have that much free time to blast off a whole weekend at it in the shop so it has been months in the works.Have had to buy some new tools, big and small and stop myself from buying some others and just use some elbow grease and ingenuity. The body is maple and the accents purple heart. Le...

Project SC #4: Its like that and thats the way it is

08-12-2010 05:10 PM by BritBoxmaker | 31 comments »

So 1st fallback reached yesterday. I have to border the pattern. For the pattern glue-ups I used a traditional glue, PVA. This is good for this purpose but if I had mitred all edges (and the top) the tiny 1mm squares at each corner might not have held on at all. Worse still is the possibility that they would chip off over time. So bordered it is. Using 7mm strips of Purpleheart I set out the patterns to give me an overall idea of what it would look like. I then labelled everything s...

Building a Murphy Bed

05-19-2013 12:27 AM by WoodJediNTraining | 1 comment »

This week’s Project is a horizontal Murphy Bed. The bed I built is a twin size bed using the Create-A-Bed Hardware kit from Rockler Woodworking and Supply. The finished look of the bed can be trimmed and finished to match your homes decor, really the limit on the final look is only limited by your imagination. These videos just tell you about the use of the hardware kit and the general construction of the project. I hope you enjoy it.
