a journey in shaper cutter, please come for the ride, stay for the 411 #1: An educational journey in shaper cutters, teachers & professors needed to take the reins.
I have over the past few weeks been able to start taking some overstock merchandise, merchandise that the customer either forgot about or didn’ t have the funds to pay after the customer used the companies sharpening service. Some of the blades, router bits and some shaper bits , I will be keeping for my self but, to be albe to buy more I have to sale items I don’t normally use or if there is way more of an item or group of items than I can use myself. This is one of those time. ...
Howdy! The build is done so I figure I have 8 days of sanding and finishing left to do. The dark wood running down the legs and across the stretchers is African Mahogany. I’ll start building the final table of the set some time this week! Yee Ha…...
Some lessons are learned the hard way. I bought a warped piece of Sapelle. I mean really warped. I thought that the little tiny pieces I needed would not be affected by a warped piece. Good lord was I ever wrong! Here’s the sorrier news. I didn’t ask the store for a price break. I just said with a real confident aire “No problem at all! It will work just fine!” Every single gap in the top of the table was due to the fact that I could not make precise cuts to the sev...
Yup – I couldn’t wait. I took that little bit of purple heart and Peruvian walnut and chopped it into little tiny pieces. The center is glued. I was dry fitting the outside border. Thought I would snap a work in progress picture. I didn’t get to do much lumber-jocking this week but I did repair the dryer, sliding glass door tack and van. I’ll take my little bit of progress and be thankful. I think I’ll be able to do a little good this weekend but my woo...
Had a bit more time this morning and late afternoon. I finished up building the legs then got them attached. Lot’s of cleanup work is required but the rest of my time will be spent making it just so. I decided to make the inside legs into triangles. It’s a lot less work, and as I understand it, sturdier. I go a little cleanup done of the top. I’m chomping at the bit to do some more work. Id be surprised if I could get her ready for finish in ano...
Whew Doggie! It’s hot out there. You may have been through the same thing as me. Glue – clamp – look at the clock – look at the clock – look at the clock…. Either that or you’re gettin’ funky with the pin nailer. Today and Yesterday it was easy to allow for glue dry time. I work out of the garage and the temperature has been a over 100 for a while. I Cut – Glue – Clamp – and run inside to rehydrate. That glue up time was ...
Recently I purchased a Steam Bending Kit from Rockler Woodworking and Hardware so I could try out some Steam Bending. Bending wood is something I have never tried before and is out of my comfort zone. I wanted to dive into this area of woodworking and challenge myself as well as learn something new. So of the various forms of wood bending (Laminated Bending, Milled Bending, Steam Bending) I chose steam bending to be my first attempt. The kit I purchased included the reservoir, hose, and so...
