Pics will be on in a few min- will edit when I’ve got em all, hang in there ;) After making my small cherry smoother which worked great, I decided I wanted to up my game and build a more traditional styled plane. I also wanted it to be toted and have a harder wood for the sole of the plane. I chose to use cherry again because it’s what I had and it is very beautiful. For the sole I chose purpleheart- mostly because its what I had, but its also extremely hard and it is actua...
CalgaryGeoff shop closing sale not required. All tools are sold. If you are interested in lumber contact me. Wood species are numerous, Hard Maple, Walnut, Wenge, Cherry, Roasted Maple, Figured Maple, Purpleheart, Douglas Fir, Iple, Mahogany (14” width) and more. Mostly 8/4 boards, some 4/4 cherry. All lumber is rough finished.
This one doesn’t see much use because it is fairly specialized. The bed angle is 60 degrees, highly useful in certain applications. Completely useless in most others. :-) That’s too bad, because it is a nice fit in the hand. It tends to be hard to adjust. Tapping the iron to advance is fine, but tapping the back of the plane is just as likely to either do nothing or loosen the wedge as it is to retract the iron. The applied shock when you tap it at the back doesn’t me...
Here’s a couple of pocket planes: The one on the left is made from walnut, the right is purpleheart and mahogany. Meant to carry around in an apron pocket for quick accessibility. They definitely show signs of banging around with all the other detritus in apron pockets… The irons came from Lee Valley, replacement irons for small planes. The iron in the walnut 7/8” wide and the other is 1” wide. As long as the irons are kept sharp, they work pretty well for putting quic...
I wanted plane #3 to be another block plane, but I wanted it to be a different kind of block. By this point, I’d done a lot of reading about planes in general and plane-making, and some of it was starting to sink in. Low angle, bevel-up planes sounded like a good thing because of the versatility, so I hit on the idea of making one from wood. The Internet is a wonderful resource for finding information on just about any conceivable topic. Usually, there is too much information, re...

It’s now February and the project was installed and completed in November of 2013. I have since recovered and have five new projects lined up, one being my own Master Bedroom Closet, which has been waiting for three years now… But I digress. The Built in Library Wall is by far the most involved piece I’ve ever built. What a blast!
Hi! the first project I’d like to share with all yall this year is this bow saw I made. I was given a bow saw kit from Gramercy tools. Knobs, brass blade holders, 3 – 12 ” saw blades. They have the plans for free on their website…. however, like many of us, I can’t just go with someone else’s standard or ordinary set up. So I did a google search for bowsaw, and selected “IMAGES FOR *” and got thousands (well maybe only a hundred or so) of...
