Four Restorations, Two Remodels, Two Staircases, and One more Deck. The first 7 months of my move from computer programmer into professional woodworker. All this and I found time to write a new web application for woodworkers too. Though work has been decent in this economic climate, I can’t say there hasn’t been down time but I made the effort to put it to good use and develop Pins & Tails. Now originally it was supposed to be for me to track and journal my work to reference ...

I posted my latest furniture projects to the LJ gallery before I put them in my own website, that just shows how you guys rate, but I did get them added to my site and they have many more detailed shots of the construction.
You will find them under the heading “Current Events” in the navigation bar.
I still do remodeling and my latest remodel project is posted under the same “Current Events.” It is not always just about woodworking, but it is always about design ...

Who among you has worked with boy scouts on the Woodworking Merit Badge?I’m looking for advice, counsel and how-to as my woodworking neighbor and I work with a small group of younger boy scouts to help them earn the merit badge. These boys will be 11 years old to 15 years old.I’m most interested in these things:—How did/do you organize the merit badge work, all in a single session of X hours OR in two or more sessions?—How do you determine which tools and which project...

Fellow Lumberjocks….
I have been part of several projects and had some very unique experiences. My woodworking, stained glass, and various other assortment of hobbies have certainly given me very rich and full filling experiences.
I love what I do and am lucky for the most part I can do what I love.
For that I am great full.
In the back of my mind I am always thinking….(scary I know) about then next project, task, dream, or “honey do list” and what need...

Do any of you start thinking about projects in the middle of the night? Well, when I do, I can’t sleep. My mother was always an insomniac and I think I picked up a bit of it as well. If I’m not thinking about wood projects, then I’m usually thinking about work projects (I am a computer programmer when I’m not off fighting somewhere). Either way it always seems that I come up with my best ideas when I am lying in bed… The big problem is when I get ideas in my...

Okay here is my quick update on what has been happening lately. My spare time has been sparse in the last week but I am almost finished with building a workbench in my basement for doing my hand tool work. I’m using the Bob Key plan which seems to be a popular basis for many of the workbenches I have read about lately.
I’ll post more details and before, during, after shots when I have it completed. Just to tease you a bit, I am using the pine framing lumber do to money and availability ...

This is a plan that I found early on in the year and is really what has finally pushed me into doing something with the dusty old tools that I have setting around. I found it by chance on a website and promptly printed a copy of the plans. I’m not too up on copyrights and such, but if you google it as 19830EZ you should be able to find it as a PDF file.
Quick back-step: My wife and I are of the belief that there are far too many gifts that are given out impersonally that fall apar...
