It’s funny how innovative we can be when we have to. I grew up with modest means and learned early in life not to waste things and to take care of what I have. Things didn’t come easy for us so we had to use what we had and make it last. I don’t see anything wrong with that. I think it is a good way to think for many reasons. I had a friend who used to tell people he loved to lend me his tools because when he got them back, they were cleaned and looked like new again....
Hey guys! Taking advantage of the long weekend here in Canada, (so this was last weekend) I made a better base for my dremel. I was taking it apart to see why it was squeaking (trapped sawdust) when the idea hit me – drill the existing screw holes all the way through the body, and get a longer screw to hold the dremel together (like the old screws) and hold the dremel to the base. Well, I didn’t have a screw quite that long and thin, but I did have some short screws of the correct diameter. S...
Well, here we are. Another weekend under our collective tool belts and starting off a new one. I sit here knowing when I check my Facebook account the usual barrage of grumblings and comments about Monday will be waiting there to greet me. It seems everyone has something negative to say about Monday. I fell like asking people “What did Monday ever do to you anyway?” My friends on Facebook are by now used to my bright and chipper attitude on Monday. I purposely turn it up a ...
I was posting a project this morning and realize that I was at 1000 post in 1600 days. WOW! It doesn’t seem like I’ve been here a LJ’s that long. Along with that I have 261 projects here. It is great to be able to go back and remember the building experience because of the write-ups. I sometimes even refer back to one on other builds so I don’t have to reinvent the wheel. This is a great site with great people. I’ve leaned a lot from professionals to t...

Videos on build projects and pdf files with patterns for some.I also siigned up for his weekly paid program when it first started and have learned much and enjoyed having a woodworking show to watch each week with details, not just highlighting a project.

As inspired by Steve - Mere Mortals... I’ve had two pieces of 1/8” scrap Curly Maple & Zebra Wood kicking around my shop for years! This seemed like a good way to use them… so I made two…Steve glued his up very quickly & simply… mine, being 1/8” stock was harder to glue-up… but, I made it. My wife liked the Zebra Wood one… I got the Curly Maple… (big grin) Here are four pictures of them… Steve, th...

Now We’re Getting Somewhere The front came out so nice, I’ve updated the design to include frame-and-panel side wings instead of plain edge-banded cherry ply as I had originally envisioned. It’s been a busy couple of weeks and there hasn’t been much shop time available, but I’ve scraped together enough hours — usually after bedtime — to finally cut, shape, and assemble the side panels (the theater’s “wings”) and prop the whole thing up. Now w...
