Pencil Post bed #2: Pencil post bed part-2

230 days ago by mikega | 5 comments »

Well the bed rails are all cleaned up and ready to cut to final size. I remembered from the DVD that Charles said to leave an extra inch in the length and width so that it is easier to tuck in the bed sheets. This means that I want 61×81 inches from rail to rail. Up to this point I always checked the DVD before I moved onto the next step but for some dumb reason I figured I could figure this one out. All I had to due was subtract the distance from the end of the mortise to the end ...

Piano Key Box...huh? #1: Disassembly of piano and idea

190 days ago by BarryW | 10 comments »

When I picked up the old upright piano from a lady up in Deadwood some months back I promised her I’d make something out of the old thing for her. Sheesh….months of disassembling an old piano whose soundboard is cracked…the tuning pegs can’t hold a tune….most folks would toss the old piano out at the dump. Not BarryW….I have to disassemble this piano piece by piece. Some time ago I blogged about using the bottom half of the piano for a workbench support....

Building a Deck from my SketchUp plan! #3: Deck in constuction stage!

118 days ago by Dick, & Barb Cain | 16 comments »

Well, we got the permit, & finally started building it. The demolishing of the old porch didn’t take too long, because it was so poorly constructed, it was hanging by a thread. They poured the slab over some clay in between the foundation walls, The clay had settled over time, so there was nothing holding up the slab. there were two 16” 2×2s just under the threshold, each with about 5 nails in each. There was nothing holding up the 6 foot length along the...

100 days ago by teenagewoodworker | 20 comments »

alright so now everything except for the fence is put together and it is looking awesome. i added the apron and plugged all my holes with birch plugs just for the looks and i put on a coat of poly just to make the birch plugs turn brown because they are end grain so it looks cool, no other reason. i am planning on making the fence and also some form of dust collection and some storage for router bits and a couple other things. maybe even put some French cleats there. so here is a video...

Sewing Table #2: My First Fine Furnature!!! Getting Started... Milling the Lumber

119 days ago by Blake | 25 comments »

Well, I am finally graduating to furniture. I intend to blog the journey in this series to share what I learn in the transition from small boxes to full size furniture. I’ve done large projects before but furniture is sort of the ‘holy grail’ of woodworking, in my mind. It is what I would really like to do (if I could afford the lumber). By the way, my mom’s birthday is June 21st (we will see how close I get to the the deadline.) The Design: Here is the original...

Building a Deck from my SketchUp plan! #4: The Grand Finale!

101 days ago by Dick, & Barb Cain | 24 comments »

Well folks! It’s finally done! This took a little longer than expected, because of the weather, & things. It’s amazing that it looks just like the SketchUp plan, but I think a tad better looking though. My Son, & his family really love it. It’s almost like a new room on their house. I also learned about the new way of staining treated lumber. They don’t recommend letting it dry out for 60 to 90 days. They say that if you treat it right a...

My New Router Table #8: A Proud Moment

308 days ago by Blake | 17 comments »

So, No more messin’ around! Its time to cut the hole! With my template all biscuited and glued up, I shaved off the other half of the biscuits and sanded everything flat. With a little sanding and shaving off the inside I got the router plate to fit perfectly inside. So I decided to use my fabricated router plate template to make a one-piece template. This way I could also test the accuracy of it. So I sandwiched together the template, one solid piece of plywood which would be the...

SawStop Contractor Model Purchase from Cradle to Shop #4: Really Placing My Order

129 days ago by CharlieD | 19 comments »

After a 2 year wait today I placed an order for the Sawstop Contractor table saw. I called Woodcraft in Houston and placed the order over the phone. For those of you who wondered about the cost…... it is a little high….... but everything is relative. It cost a lot to sew fingers back on. First I have to say that I was somewhat distribured by the shipping charge. The charge is $375.00. I can’t image that it costs that much to ship and I assume that Sawstop is making s...
